The width of the belt is the issue. I will try GM Canada tomorrow to see if they have that belt. The current version sits a bit high and sideways and high on the pulley.

Thanks Pete. And Others for the replies. Mine actually sits slightly above the outer edges of the pulley. I will try the numbers provided at the dealer today.

Just had to say it. I got my Vette sans air pump and that stuff, so I really havent worked on them before. I will keep my not so funny remarks to myself next time :D :jester

You guys are great! I dropped by an AC Delco outlet this morning and here is what I learned. The ...616/719 belt (33") is for a 1979 with A/C; the ...718 (32.5") is for cars without A/C such as mine. There is a Dayco equivalent (#15325) which was in stock and I picked one up. On the width, the new belt is 7/16", the one on my car is 1/2". Mystery solved. Thanks!

No problem. Good of you to reply! After two days of freezing rain I was not in a good mood....Have you ever driven on a skating rink :eek: .
