Re: Best pwr steering control valve (One GM A Tech)
I have talked with the Technical Service Department at Vette Brakes and Products. They indicate that they rebuild their own control valves and test them. Rebuilt valves come with a 5 year guarantee. They will also rebuild the valve with a heavier spring if you can stand a somewhat higher effort in order to get a better feel of the road. Tech Support can be reached from 1 to 4 at (727) 345-5292. Orders at (800) 237-9991.

I will probably get flamed but here goes. advance atuo and auto zone have lifetime warrynties on these parts as long as you own the car. I have bought them from GM and they go bad and you don't get another one. :conehead

One GM A Tech,
I got my power steering control valve, control valve piston and all my brake parts from Auto Zone. The parts have held up fine and they fit fine. All the parts are gauranteed for life. Their prices are very good too. Good luck.

I fell into that trap with a starter for my 71. I've now had to replace it 4 times in 6 years. It has in fact been free each time. Of course, ther is no compensation for labor. I guess it depends what your time is worth.
I recall buying my pwr steering components from Vette Brakes almost 10 years ago. Still no problems.

Rebuilt valves are USA; new ones are from Brazil. I was advised by a friend of mine, who's a Corvette parts supplier, to go with the rebuilts for now.

Though I am now about to switch to rack and pinion (Steeeroids), I have to say that my last purchase, almost 10 years ago, of a power steering valve was from Vette Brakes and Products. Before that I was plagued with leaks and went through probably 4 valves, including a new one from GM and ones from several other sources.
In short: Go with the VB&P valve.

The nice touch with VBP is they center the unit when they pressure test it, so you just have to bolt it on. Unfortunately, my old unit was fused in place, so I had to pull the whole relay rod.
BTW, I did order the stronger spring (55lb) from VBP and I see know difference in wheel "tightness".
