ooooooww looking good.....I like the matching simpson seat belts.....I would also add velcro to the pockets on the glove compartment door to keep them flush against the back instead of hanging open....Very nice looking interior. :seeya Cappy

Chuck,

Do you have the seat cushions attached yet? I really liked your seats when I saw them a few weeks ago. Did you say they don't go as far back as the '69 seats?

TCTBBB,

The cushions are thicker, also more comfortable. I think I lose about 1 to 1.5 inches of effective rear seat travel.

I like your interior! Very clean! But i must caution you...

Please DO NOT put a racing harness on a street car without a rollbar. Should you flip, your head and torso have nowhere to move, and you'll be crushed by your own roof. This is a safety device only effective with a rollbar. Please do not take it as a joke.

Good advice. BTW, the interior looks awesome, great color theme for an all american beast L-88!

Jenny,

I appreciate your concern; but, the harness is bolted to the rear cross member. The rear window frame has a steel frame under the fiberglass. It is the bracing from the front windshield to the window frame that gives the coupes much more structural rigidity than the convertibles. The diagonal shoulder harness is also designed to keep ones torso back in the event of an impact. If the car does flip, I am in trouble if the roof collapses, harness or not. G forces capable of crushing the roof will also stretch out my inverted torso in the same direction of travel.

It's amazing when flying upside down in a Pitts 2SA wearing a very similar harness. No matter how tight you cinch the belt, your butt still clears the seat when inverted. There is no way anyone can hold a "balled up" position, inverted, subjected to anything more than the slightest G forces. Certainly not an impact.

I had a friend that rolled his 74 when it was almost brand new. He was traveling about 120mph, alcohol was involved, went straight even though the road did not, hit a bar ditch, flipped head to tail, then rolled sideways several times. I was quite impressed with how well the cabin withstood the impacts. Pete then bought a Pantera with his insurance money.

The 69 does not have the steel side beams, but everything else with the passenger compartment is the same. The side beams at the car's belt line have no affect on the window frame/roll bar. Better roll bars can be welded in; but, the factory design isn't just for looks either. My earnest goal is to continue to keep the shiny side up!

Chuck
