removing steering column any pointers?
I'm taking the column out of my totaled 78 to fix the one in the 79 i bought. If anyone has done this recently any advise would be most welcome. Thanks in advance. :conehead

It's not that bad of a job. However it's been a while since I did mine. The only thing I can offer is to make sure you get all the electrical connections removed. Don't overlook the cruise - If you have it.

It's an easy job. Remove the rag joint, 2 bolts through the firewall and 2 bolts under the dash. Disconnect the electrical plugs and it slides straight out. The drivers seat does not need to be removed but it makes working under the dash easier.

Re: removing steering column any pointers? (A78Corvette)
As long as they are both standard (non-adjustable) columns or both T&Ts the 1978 and 1979 steering columns are exactly the same. They will swap one for one.
When I pulled my 1975 column out of my Roadster, I wrote down all the important steps. They should be pretty much the same except that my older column had the back drive lever that connected to a transmission cable. Your newer columns have the small key release lever up by the ignition switch. The engine compartment floor pan plate is still there without the back drive cable.
You can look under http://www.corvettefaq.com. It is posted under Suspension and Steering. Look for the paper entitled Adjust Dimmer and/or Ignition Switch. There is a section on dropping the steering column.
