I am about ready to dye most of my interior. I have washed the parts in dish soap, and wiped them down with 3M wax and adhesive remover. I am not worried about the hard plastic pieces, but the vinyl covered ones worry me. I don't know why, but it does. I am dyeing the parts the same color. I am using dye from Corvette America in a quart. Any other prep I should do? For those who have done this, does the dye go on the vinyl parts like it does on the hard plastic parts? Can I use the same dye on metal parts? Any help would be appreciated greatly!!!!! :cheers:

The one you shouldn't worry about are the Vinyl pieces thats what the paint is made for...as for the hard pieces I would scuff it to knock down the shine with some scotch brite same with metal pieces....I believe they recommend some type of primer for the hard pieces...But I have done fine without it..but you will need to prime the parts that are bare...Also most spray bombs are laquer based so humidity must be low and most important of all when it comes to vinyl dyes less is better....just put on what you need in light coats but make sure you prepsol the pieces to remove any oils before ....Good luck

Like the above post said, the vinyl is the easy part. You've done all the prep so you're ready. I used a touch-up gun. Don't spray to much. I used a primer for the plastic parts, but not really sure i needed it. Sounds like you're all ready. Go for it.

I learned the hard way that it is very inportant to gett ALL !!!!!!!!!!! the wax grease and especialy all the Aromor all off I used somthing called Castrol Supper clean which not only cleaned it very well but actualy etched the surface and now the new color won't budge. :cool:

Others have said it and I will repeat, MOST IMPORTANT IS "REMOVE ALL WAX AND GREASE", AND "LIGHT COATS OF DYE". I noticed that Zip sells a "Dye primer". I wonder if it's for vinyal? Never used it, and never heard of anyone that did. Happy dyeing!! :D :D :D

j/k ....I heard that if you use the DYE, use it in warm weather, be sure to let it dry...also saw some say they used something rough to really scrub it in to the carpet....G/L !! :cheers:

You might want to visit this site for some tips on proper prepping http://www.semproducts.com/. I used their vinyl clean and had good results. I used dye from Corvette America after trying samples from 3 different suppliers. I found it was the closest match to original color. I also had to use primer on the hard plastic parts such as the seat backs where the paint had been scratched down to the bare plastic. On my 71 the original plastic was black and the dye would not adhere to it without a primer coat.

I just did the vynil in my 68. I used spray coloring (vynil spray) from Autozone

I use Armor all as well, and it is correct, you have to get that stuff off. I just used a couple of wipe downs with Laquer thinner. Quick, worked very well

Did the same on my 86 door panel
