New Track Times!!!!
I went to No Problem Raceway tuesday to run the Corvette with some friends. Here's my new best time.
R/T--.604
60--1.781
330--5.188
1/8--8.05
MPH--86.45
1000--10.51
1/4--12.626
MPH--106.27
Not too bad for a 17yr old's daily driver huh? I can't believe that I'm leaving that hard out of the hole with 3.36 gears and old 235/15 Eagle radials. Do you think that 4.11 gears (assuming traction) will get me close to 12.0??
Thanks,
Jay

That is a great 60 foot time with street tires. You must be getting some good traction. Are they treating the track before you run? Good times overall

Re: New Track Times!!!! (TeenagerWith74Vette)
Thanks for the inquiries guys.
Well, here's what I have:
350 4-bolt main .40 over
eagle rods
KB pistons
10.5 to 1 comp.
FluiD Dampener
284 Extreme Energy Cam Hydraulic
Harland & Sharp Roller Rockers
Dart Pro 1 Alum. heads 215 runners, 64cc chambers 2.05/1.60 valves
Air Gap Performer RPM intake
750 Holley Vac. secondaries
Turbo 400 "Built"
B&M 3000 stall
3.36 gears, (soon to be 4.11)
Old 235 series tires
That track seems to hook pretty hard. I can't wait to get my 4.11s in. I'm going to try to switch the chunks tomorrow. How much do you think the ears will help?
Thanks,
Jay

very nice setup you got there....the 4.11 might hurt your top end alittle bit..but ya never know till you try it.let us know if ya do it..

Re: New Track Times!!!! (pats406nitrovette)
I actually wouldn't go with the 4.11 gears. Your going to leave really hard, possibly spinning the tires quite a bit. It very well may slow you down more beacuse your probably not going into 4th gear, but with the 4.11's you probably will, which could effect the out come of the times because of the extra shift. So, you might run faster, you might not. You over all 4th gear highway speed will be a little higher, so daily driving will probably consume more gas. But, I'd say try and see. There's no way to know until you try. A slighty moded 385HP ZR-1 was running .01's of a second off with a moded Z06 because the ZR-1's added RPMs were allowing it not to have that last shift at the end of the track. So, you'll have to see. Best of luck. Those are some kick-butt times!!! Your faster than most cars out there, so that's enough right there. :D :chevy

I went from 4.11 gears to 3.70 gears and picked up some speed and trap times. When I can hook the car up it seems to leave better. I would suspect you will improve going from 3.36 to 4.11 gears. Give it a try and let us know

Re: New Track Times!!!! (TeenagerWith74Vette)
Thanks guys. I definately hope that the 4.11s pick me up a good bit.
My cam suggests that gear, and the size of my heads suggest top-end power. Keep in mind that I can always go to a 28in tire to cope with the top-end speed. I will most likely have to go with drag radials to get traction. But then again, everybody said I couldn't get that good of 60fts with my tiny radials. I love proving people wrong! Anyway, I will know soon if the gears help much, four or five tenths would be awesome. Then, maybe a roller cam to go into the high 11's. I've already got the roll-cage waiting at my house. It sure is nice to dream!
See ya'll later,
Jay

Re: New Track Times!!!! (TeenagerWith74Vette)
Got a quick question about how you are shifting. Are you manually shifting or are you just putting in drive and going? Also, how high does your engine rev? I think that the 4.11 gears will make a huge difference in your times because since you are in 3rd gear for the last part of your run anyway, you will just be able to pull that much better! The reason that I think you will be doing better is because of this, and maybe I am out in left field, but it is a rule that works for me. I take all of my times and divide the 1/8th mile by the 1/4 mile for me and my opponents and I my average for about 50 of my runs and as many competetors is about 66%. Your run is about 63.8% on the first 1/8th mile. So all of that to say that a 8.05 1/8th mile should get you closer to 12.1 than a 12.6. The other thing I noticed is that you are only gaining 20mph on the last half of the track which seems like you are not in your "power" rpm range. The 4.11 gears will fix that. I hope that made a little bit of sense. Good luck!

Re: New Track Times!!!! (TeenagerWith74Vette)
I'm running a 7000 MSD chip right now, so I usually shift just before that. Keep in mind that I only have a hydraulic flat tappet cam, so I can't go too high. I really need to hook my tach up. I've been just running by ear.
I shift manually all of the time. I would love to be close to 12.0s. Maybe I could go to a solid cam, or even solid roller. That would give the that extra little umph.
My dad heard about a real bad wreck at State Capital Raceway last Friday night when I was running. A nove barrel-rolled down the track. So, he's really after me to get that cage in. I told him I wasn't putting it in until I get kicked out running 11s.
I wasn't able to make it to the track Sunday. I was at Southern Miss at an Honor Band. I'll have to catch ya'll next time.
Later,
Jay

A solid roller cam will allow you to rev higher than a hydraulic roller. The solid roller lifters are lighter, and you can usualy run a more agressive grind with the solid rollers. You don't want a solid tappet cam, unless you like adjusting your rocker arms everyweekend. I would actually stay with your stock rear, and just give your motor a nice heathly solid roller cam and a higher stall speed. And then get some BFG DR's. 255/60/15's will work.

We'll, I've already got the complete 4.11 chunk. And, I plan on starting to put it in after school today. I've gotta go. I'll see ya'll later.

TeenagerWith74Vette- You got me beat!, good reaction time as well. Going to 4:11 might give you traction problems without slicks. I would like to go to 3:36 gears It might get me into the low 13 sec.

Re: New Track Times!!!! (TeenagerWith74Vette)
Excellent !
I assume the strip is sea leavel or close.
The strips within reason here are not open this year yet, so at present have to rely on the G tech which is almost a full second faster than Top Gun Raceway Fallon Nevada (4,000) feet.
My 3.90 gears arrived today and I hope to have them installed this week.
I will run the 1/4 with the 3.08 and again with the 3.90 and let you know what happens. Let us know how your conversion works out.
ZZ4 w/hot cam,4 speed, MSD 6A street tires :)

Re: New Track Times!!!! (TeenagerWith74Vette)
WOW!!! What a difference! I can't keep this thing on a two-lane road. It just spins everywhere. I can hit it from a 20mph roll and smoke them through 2nd gear. I cut my exhaust off, so it's really loud right now and I can't hear when it stops spinning. All I know is that I thought I was hooked-up in 2nd, then it suddenly swerved again at the top on 2nd!
I lost a belt while I was out playing in it, I already bought the belts so I'll change them tomm. Maybe get the exhaust welded up Friday. Everybody is going to the track Saturday, but they're going to State Capital and it is very slick. I'll probably wait 'til next week to take it out.
The rearend came out pretty easy. We were able to do it in one evening. I am very pleased. Anyone looking for a 3.36 chunk?
