Personally I don't know of anyone who has tried it, normally it's the other way around :)
But I'm curious, why would you want to ?

The shape will fit, but the locking mechanism is different.
I adapted "Moonroofs" to fit on my 1980.
A big job, would not recommend it for "normal" tops.

saw a potentially good deal on some mirror tops, and thought they would look better than mine. If it is too much work, i wont worry about it.

I found that there was a difference fron 76 to 77 and I know in 78 there is no back clamp it's a pin instead and you use only one lever per side

The '74s have a clamp on the front and a clamp on the back. The '80s have one front clip that pushes a pin into the back side.
If you are going to put them on you have to convert to one of the two locking styles. I would say the better one is the '80 but it is also more difficult to fabricate.
