Default Removing paint from rubber AC hose?

I'm doing a 383 install, so while the motor is out I'm going all out on detailing the engine compartment, everything will get sanded, painted or shined. I want to leave the AC in the car as it gets pretty hot here in the summer. The bubba who owned my car before me had it repainted and there is a fair amount of overspray on the big AC hose, I want to remove the paint rather than buy a new hose as it's in good shape other than the paint. Any safe way to remove it without doing damage to the rubber?

Lacquer thinner works great on all hoses and rubber parts

Yep, lacquer thinner and a well worn scrub pad. You know, the kind with the scratchy nylon on the back to help remove baked on food. Works well.

Thanks for the replies! Looks like tomorrow it's off to Home Depot for some laquer thinner. Todays project was take everything off the firewall, then degrease it...what fun! :D

Why not just use some petrol ....sorry Gas....out of your tank? It's no more harmful to the rubber than lacquer thinners would be and you don't have to go so far to get it.

Also WD-40 works well. just soak it, and wipe it off. Cheap fix

Hmmmm, I'll try the WD40 and gas first as it's not too bad, just might save a trip to HD. Thanks!

If thinners and gas don't work, try abrasives like soft scrub, rubbing compound and even a scotch brite pad. If the paint is real old and baked on, abrassives seemed to work better.
