Another question on 17 inch wheels
Has anyone tried these? Its my choice for replacement on my baby... they are 17x8, and theoretically use the standard trim rings and hub caps (hope one fits in the spare tire carrier!)

I've done the Skip Barber racing school at Laguna Seca, and want to make my vette into an autocross racer, and figure this is the "cleanest" way to do 17x8 wheels... any opinions?

These are made by Wheel vintiques. You can save a few $$$ by ordering them from Summit. The 17x8 are not in the catalogue, but they carry them. I got a set on my '71. They fit as is, but to get the right look I used thin spacers. 5/16 rear and 7/32 front. The spacers are thin enough that I could use the stock studs and the nuts engage fully.
Mine are chrome, and then I painted the center silver. Stock centercaps fit.
Here're a few pics...

That's a great look, Markus.
FWIW, I have ordered a set of Boyd's wheels. They'll custom CNC 'em from a big block of aluminum to whatever specs you want, though they have some "standard" sizes that work out right. The set I ordered looks like this, and ran me $945 for all 4.
Front: 17 x 8, 4" backspacing, Corvette C3 hub pattern.
Back: 17 x 9.5, 4.75" backspacing (I have offset arms).
Tires will be BFG gforce KDW:
Front: 255-45-17
Rear: 285-40-17

Hey Markus,
What size tire did you end up with? I was figuring on 245/45/17s the whole way around. I'm considering these tires
Just for the fun of doing burnouts.. they say they leave a full color strip on the ground... BF Goodrich Scorchers is what they are.
Also do you know if those wheels are available in 17 in any other width than 8?
Thanks!

Noel: $945 for the set is a steal!
How much do they weigh? The only thing I don't like about the WV I have is the weight. The wheel weighs 8 lbs more than a stock wheel, which is already heavy.
BTW, the set of 4 chrome rims was $630 from summit. Free shipping. I think the bare ones are $120 ea.
There are no trim rings, which is why I recommend the crome rims.
As for tires, I have Nitto 255/50-VR17's. Personally don't care for the scorchers. Only H rated and have a distinct 'ricer' flavor... But to each his own.
I like the Nittos, but will try bridgestone potenza RE730's when the nittos wear out. The bridgestones are Z-rated. I have the bridgestones on my Z28 and they're great.
