Default Update on my engine

Well, I finally got around to doing some work. I installed the cam friday. I need to get the rear oil pan gasket so I can get that on and get my steering bolted back up. I'll get my heads back March 8th, and they'll probably be on by the 12th or so. (The heads are Kens L-98's. I was seeing if my headers fit, I noticed that some of you guys had problems)

Aaron - looks good. Like to see it when finished.

Is that header tube real close to the steering box? I am looking at headers and hear about clearance problems.

But, I am also thinking about selling the "silver beauty" and going to something else.

I checked with another guy with an 82 when he was here yesterday, and there's the same clearance with mine than there is with the 82's. So, it SHOULD fit. According to measurments.

I just got a used Performer and someone has painted it an aluminum color. What did you do to make yours look like you did.

Yeah, I left the motor in the car.

We have a REAL nice sandblaster in Auto Shop.

You don't want the headers that close to the steering box. Thats a lot of heat pounding into your steering? You'll be cooking the oil in no time.

I've had the Hooker headers-sidepipes for 4 years now, the clearance looks about the same, no problems with the steering box so far. If worst comes to worst you could easily buy a piece of aluminum at Home Depot and fab a nice little heat shield.

Aaron- nice job cleaning everything up, looks great.

Thanks..I've tried to keep it nice looking.

I think before I fire her up I'm going to beg my dad to get out there and help me with wiring..I HATE wiring..I'd rather be donating a kidney or something. But If I sold a kidney I could probably have the car frame off restored...

hey....that doesnt sound to  :jester :conehead :hat

Aaron,

You just might be in luck, I just read that the AMA is reconsidering their stance on the selling of human organs  :jester Don't sweat the wiring too much, I just took mine all apart recently, made sure to take plenty of pictures. It's just a matter of matching up the plugs nearest the end of the wiring....I hope

Actualy, I just plan on taking all the wire i've got in there now and cutting it all under the dash or at the fire wall and just running new wire with connectors. Just to ensure I don't have anymore white smoke that I've had in the past. A few engine bay fires never kill any one.

I just LOVE Holley carbs. I think If someone were to offer me a new Edelbrock 750 over a Holley 650 that's in a kinda crummy condition, I would take the Holley just for the look. I've always wanted a Holley. I guess I was lucky to get this one for 7.00$'s :D
