Q-Jets Rule!
My new crate engine has about 600 miles on it now. I installed an Edelbrock 1406 carb when I put the engine in, and I've never been able to get it to run quite right. I could tell that the engine had the potential to be a beast, but I had not been able to tune it in. I had an old Q-Jet laying around, so I rebuilt it and put it on today. Wow! What a difference. It still needs some tuning, but I plan to attack it with Lars' tuning paper next weekend. It idles better, runs smoother, and pulls harder. I already have a buyer for the Edelbrock. I love Q-Jets!

Re: Q-Jets Rule! (e3pres)
Im liking mine......Just barely have 2000 on my rebuilt 350 and rebuilt q-jet....Im now getting 20mpg in the city and 23  on the highway. It pulls like its fixing to fly and the sound of the secondaries is about the coolest thing alive. Chevy did this one right!!!

Spread the good news. The only problem with the quadrajet his that not much tuners knows about them. So many people decide to go the easy path with a holley or others. Since we have Lars to guide us, let's tune some quadrajet and burn some rubber. :D

Re: Q-Jets Rule! (American Boy)
I agreee about Q-jets being a great carb. The problem is that there are so many variations and once the original parts are mixed and mis-matched in commercial rebuilding you get a piece of junk that may be worse than you old one. NEVER ever get rid of your original carb, Instead send it to someone like Lars who can rebuild it corcectlly. Q-jets got a bad rap early on because they were so complex and no one knew how to work on them. They are the best carb ever made for all around good performance, mileage and drivability. Now that is not to say there are not better carbs for special purposes.

I agree, I finally got mine dialed in great. I was debating changing to a Demon, but after working some bugs out of the quad I changed my mind and will put that money into other places.

Adam,
Can you tell me how and where you obtained the "Tuning Paper" that you referred to?
I am assuming Lars wrote it but is it avaialble on a site somewhere?
Thanks in advance,

silvervetteman,
I hate to sound stupid, but I don't know his e-mail address.
If you know it I will be glad to e-mail him.
Thank you,
