Factory Security system
I have read in many places that Vet's came with factory security systems standard. My question is, where is it and how does it work? Anybody know anything about this?

Re: Factory Security system (dewayne4)
It was optional up through 1971 or 72, then it became standard equipment after that. The original C-3 alarm system was turn off and on by a key in the rear of the car, looked like a trunk key. Then the moved it to the left front fender near the Stingray script. Later I think it was incorporated into the driverside door lock mechanism.
It was a pretty cheesy system, but if someone opened your door or hood while it was activated it honked a horn that was hidden up under the left rear rear fender.

Re: Factory Security system (dewayne4)
They became standard in 1972.
Reminds me of when I first bought my '84. After the first stop I made the car would not start - nothing there - nada. So I get out quite irritated and open the hood. Then the car actually says to me "Step away from the vehicle" pretty loudly and a horn goes off very loudly. Now that was cool but it took me 1/2 an hour to find the toggle switch for it. Every once in a while it would go through it's actions and NOBODY ever bothered me about it at all - and this was at a rest stop! Never engaged the alarm again.

This diagram for your 1979 may be of interest. High-res. Be patient.
