Anyway to restore yellowing coolant resevoir?
Just wondering if anyone's found a way to clean up the plastic coolant overflow tank to get the plastic back to white. I really don't wanna have to buy a new one if I don't have to just because the plastic is turning yellow. Any ideas?

SNODRGN, I would also be interested in the responses to your post. The tank for my '73 is out of production and not available. I have tried many places with no success. The '74 - '77 tanks will not fit because of a notch on the inner fender. I would be willing to purchase one that will fit. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated to replace or to whiten the old one. Thanks in advance for you help...

The fact that it's turning yellow might also indicate that its becoming brittle. Might want to be careful not to crack it.

I tried everything. The thing that worked the best was Bleeche White.
However, I still didn't like it and ended up replacing it. It was pretty cheap and it was an exact match for the original.
you can see it sticking out on the other side here. I did the same with the washer fluid resovoir.

I replaced mine on my 73 4 years ago and it still looks great. If the picture doesn't show up go to photos below.

What did you replace with? I thought the '73 tanks were unique and others didn't fit?

Actually, someone gave me a tub of it for Christmas. I've been thinking about trying it on stuff...

Re: Anyway to restore yellowing coolant resevoir? (One GM A Tech)
I just tried bleeche white and it is not at all magical. It was a very good way to clean the stains, but did almost nothing for the yellowing. Last time this topic came up people said denture cleaner. I'll give it a shot, but I'm not expecting much.
I am assuming chlorine bleach would either make the plastic more brittle or destroy it?

I wouldn't think that chlorine bleach would harm it. After all, bleach comes in a plastic jug. Definately wouldn't want any on my hoses though. Sadly, I think the yellowing is permanent though. It's just due to the deterioration of the plastic, not an outside film. :(

Just looking over my Ecklers catalog for some parts and found this. 73-77 expansion tank, includes mounting clips, part #A2368, $13.99

I know they are listed, but everyone that has posted as trying it on a '73 has mentioned problems. Not sure if this is a new design...

Probably should have posted this info too. From the 2001 fall/winter catalog #2101 the above tank is listed as "new" and "excellent reproduction of original." If ordering I would ask about fit problems just to be sure.

Thanks for your help so far to everyone who replied. The yellowing is more from being stained and not the plastic becoming aged and brittle. I guess maybe it will be easier just to replace it but I'd like to know what I can do to keep it clean and white and prevent it from becoming stained and yellow again like the one I have now.
