Jegs pricing on Crane Cams and Lifters=insane!
Newest catalog has the Energizer line with lifters @ $77.00
Thats a deal for a high quality cam and a name you can trust.
I don't price shop on cams in particular but these are great cams for you guys running small block street cars with headers.
Crane typically under rates the rpm range as in the staring point of usable low end power. In other words will pull from lower than advertised.

Had the Crane 272 Energizer in my L-48 before the rebuild. Great cam. $79 @ NAPA.
Crane's advertised durations tend to be longer than the comparable Comp but my .050 duration was actually 2 degrees less than the 268H. Another thing is that Crane tends to grind on a wider lobe sep abgle (112 vs 110) which will calm the idel down a bit as well.

These lobes are a little less intense is why.Of the 11 grinds they have in this line for small chevy, one is 112,3 is 106,the rest are 110.
Yep the 272 is 216@.050 110 LCA
Those motors would never notice the difference in top end power between the 2 cams.

I've got a Crane Max Velocity 272 in my 74. Great cam. It has 216 degrees intake and 228 degrees exhaust duration with a .454/.480 lift respectively. It idles nice at 850 rpm and pulls 15 1/2 inches of vacuum. I can actually get it to idle down to 700 but it's a little too lumpy there. It really comes alive after 2000 rpm. I always wonder why all the magazine rebuilds go with Comp Cams. I know they're good but it would be nice to see something different for a change.

At one time I had the Crane Max Velocity 272 in my 4X4 and the 278 in my 355 Vette. Both with 1.6 roller tips. In my vette I also had the Hi Intensity lifters which are some kind of bleed off style. So it might tone it down at lower rpm. It really started at 2500 and ran to 6500+ with good heads single plane and headers.
I always felt that Comp Cams were for wannabe racers. That were more interested in the choppy race idle sound than real power.

I think you're right. Unfortunately, with the magazines pushing only certain products, they endanger the well being of other companies who offer good products but will be less known due to the lack of press coverage. I can't remember the last time I heard of a buildup with an Isky, Herbert or other cam.

You can get a good cam from Comp, Crane, Crower, etc. The main thing is to get the right one for your setup.

Most of the 216-220@.050 cams will make near 400 hp with good heads and all the other goodies.
I see a lot of over camming of the 383's.Not that much bigger than a 355.From what I have seen of the local engine dyno pulls they like a little wider LSA than a 350 motor with a dual plane manifold
General Kinetics had some nice cams. For some reason Lunati"before Holley got Lunati" bought them out and never used the grinds.
Norris was another Cam company that had some very agressive symmetrical lobes for racing.
Now gas is so bad it pings when you wash parts.
Which now reminds me of things like
Wynns Friction Proofing
Bardahl
Amalie
Champlin CMO motor oil 11 cents a quart
Every oil company having a racing oil
Ethyl
Cyclone Headers
Black Jack Headers for $19.95
Thrush
Green Meany
Those white chalk sticks to make white letter tires
Coors Banquets
Coors quarts!
Muffler tickets or rather-no muffler tickets!
Out running the Police-Nope not me!
Did you know that the 1974 454ci Caprice Police cars were not very fast? At least that is what I have heard :D

i've saved every magazine test since 1987. CompCams make more power. Could that be what readers want? But Cranes are great for the competition :jester There are exceptions, of course.
I had a crane Blazer in my 61 years ago, got 20 mpg. can cc say that?

Ganey,
What do you think of this GM cam for my L-82 (TH350 and 3.55:1)? Is there a Crane equivalent? That price is very tempting!

Oops. Can't get that far into the catalogue. The part number is 3896962.
