Wheels. I need to see wheels!
So ive found a few sets of wheels i think would look good on the vette, my first choice being American Racing: Teron, but there SUV wheels. most of the wheels i like are for suvs. all the custom wheel guys tell me that i would have to stick to corvette wheels because the offset and bolt pattern is ver specific. so i decided i wanted to get 2000+ wheels, but now im having second thoughts. I know Tourque Thrust 2s look good but man they are common. i want something in 17"-18" that i can throw some p245/40ZR/?? on front and P295/45ZR/?? on back. Any ideas?

Eagle Alloys Series 117. American Racing has the same style.

With stock trailing arms and the right wheel design and tire combo, you can't achieve any more than 5 inches of backspace and typically only 4" - 4-1/2". Those wheels probably have way too much backspace to fit on a Vette without a really thick spacer installed. A thick spacer will also push the wheel out too far. And spacers aren't recommended very much around here. Maybe 1/4" or 1/2" to allow a specific wheel design to clear the caliper.

Here is just another option. I was in your situation until last Fall when, after a year of searching, I got these. They are 17x9.5 running 285/40/17s on all four corners

Check out the 290 Vortec Z wheel on this page. Looks like a C5 wheel but with the correct backspacing for a C3. http://www.performancewheeloutlet.co...ml?id=2&step=2

All I got was red xs, no real pics, sorry.
I ordered 20" AR TT IIs 5 weeks ago and they should be ready in few weeks.
These were my other choice:
They are also available in 17-20 diameter.

They are Centerline 806's 17"x9.5" with an 5" backspacing and NO spacers (5x4.75" bolt pattern). I did not use the center caps that came with the wheels, instead, I bought a new set of center caps for my stock '81 Alum. wheels and, with a little work, mounted them in the center of the wheel. I've gotten good feedback at some shows, non-Vette people think they were an option from the factory. I have 285/40ZR17 Firehawk SZ50s mounted on all four. I have noticed that when the front wheels are at lock, the tire just barely touches the frame...but not bad enough to worry about. In the back there is about 1/4-1/3" of an inch spacing between the tire and the rear sway bar, but that is it. They fill up the in tire well and they DO NOT stick out. It took a long, long, long time to find a wheel that I liked and that would fit, but I'm content for now. I'm putting some new pics on my website soon (www.corvetteforum.net/c3/dshrack).
By the way, I autocross and there is no comparison- 17" wheels handle the car so much better. One of those simple upgrades that make a world of difference.
Hope this helps.

Very nice lookin wheels dshrack. I am looking for some 17" wheels to put on my '81. These look like a real good choice. I am about like you, it is taking me a long time to find something I like and that will fit.

Re: Wheels. I need to see wheels! (Noel Carboni)
Thanks Noel,
I know you would never remember this, but you were one of the first people I emailed when I started to modify my car- back before I knew about The Forum. I think it was early in 1999 when we emailed back and forth about fuel injection and suspension mods. In fact, I still have your emails in my "saved" folder. My car was a completely stock '81 at the time and was beige in color. Come to think of it, I still have your web page bookmarked. Thanks to your help, and the rest of the Forum, I've gotten a lot of work done (check my website in a couple of days and I'll have my car's resume online). My car is finally getting to what I envisioned so many years ago.

I like the Eagle 117's also. My center caps have been modified with spinners with a red and black cross flag emblem. I like the look with the red calipers.
