'71 elec problem. Short or ground?
Just finished reinstalling engine after overhaul and weird electrical problem.
After connecting battery, right directional indicator on dash staying on solid and temp guage going much higher than normal and needle fluctuates when turning on marker lamps indicating either short or bad ground. I did remove front lamp harness and reinstall during engine compartment detail. No problems previous to engine replacement. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Carl.
p.s. Any wiring diagram pics online for a 71 or similar. Thanks again.

Thats interesting, my cj7 jeep does the exact same thing. Unfortunately I have no idea what is causing it. The only hint I have that its a ground is that jeeps are notorious for bad grounds and corvettes are too. Mabey its just a coincidence though.

You have to run a ground cable to the frame from the engine. There is/was a ground cable from the block to the frame on that 71 originally, whether its still there or not, I do not know. Check it out before you have a fire.
