Default Camshaft

I have an 81 with a bad camshaft, the car is pretty much stock. I can get a Crane Energizer 272 H10 today and put it in, but if I want anything else I would have to wait another week and a half. How would this cam run in my car, I usually only drive around town, but every once in a while I take it on the highway.

Ben

If you had a manual you would be fine. W/ an auto. & it sounds like the engine probably has some miles to need a cam, it may accel. rather slowly to about 3000 & then take off. You might be happier w/ 1 step down on the cam.

Would it stall a lot, or just be slow from 0-3000? I have 85,000 miles, I was leaking some water from the intake manifold, and I think this is what rounded off the 1st exhaust lobe.

Sir, from Crane's own website that cam comes on at 2000. Check moujntainmotor's comments ont he Energizers, they tend to come on earlier than advertised....to wit...IMHO it would be ideal.

Machine up a piece of steel that bolts to a valve cover bolt hole and allows you to attach a dial indicator. Meaure the lobe lift off the purshord side of the rocker. Take a min of 3 measurements. More than 0.010 down, its going.

No it would not stall, it would run good, just not perform as it should w/ a fresh engine.

Dan

If badly worn you can see by removing the valve covers & running, some valves will obviously not have the full motion.
