Are rear rotors riveted to spindles on '69's?

My sources tell me they are not. They say they are held on by the brake caliper and the wheel and no more. It seems kind of odd to me.

The Chilton's manual which covers many years says rivet. I did not see anything in the 1969 Assembly Manual.

Thanks

Yes, the original factory rotors were riveted to the spindles, just like the fronts were riveted to the hubs. At the factory, the assembly's, front and rear were "trued" to remove runout, and subsequent "air pumping" into the calipers. When the rotors were replaced, they were not re-riveted, and not "trued". That's when air pumping problems begin. Chuck

That's really interesting because my 69 has no rivets. I just assumed that they had been removed the do the rear wheel bearings sometime in the past. What sources said there were no rivets?

Bairs of PA will rivet your rotors although lots of guys are running around without the rivets. Just make sure that your lug nuts are properly torqued. The biggest problem, as Chuck mentioned, is the rotor runout and the pumping that occurs.

I just finihed rebuilding the right T arm and decided to screw the rotor to the spindle instead of rivet or use the lug nuts to hold it. I used 3/8-24x5/8" socket flat heads and tapped the rivet holes. I had the runout down to .001" then unbolted the rotors to assemble everything and lost some of it-now .003" but I'll dial it in when I have it on the car.
Just another option to think about.
