Help, valve covers won't fit over Crane rockers
Building my big block today and my new GM aluminum valve covers won't clear my Crane Gold race rockers, on my Merlin heads,the nut that holds them to the stud hits on the under side of the cover. It looks like I would need a gasket about 3/8 to 1/2 thick to do the job. Are there gaskets or spacers that I can use? I got the covers from Jegs and they also have a pair that are chrome, with Merlin on them, they are taller. I would post my pictures that I took today, but don't know how, if someone wants I could email them to you and then they could be posted. Thanks for the help!

Tom,
Those nuts "look tall" like they are for a stud girdle, are you using a girdle?? if not you should be able to get a standars set of poly locks.

S-S makes a spacer for your problem.
Edited to add Redvetracer's right in that they look like the ones for stud girdles.Can't really tell by pics though.Do you have a local speed shop you can compare to others with? Still might need a spacer and the power brake booster might be an issue.

redvetracr, I am using the nuts that came with the cranes, I don't think poly locks will fit. These are not stud girdles.

Crower makes "short sure-locks" for their stainless roller rockers, which should fit under the valve covers. Perhaps so does Crane. If not you could try a set of the Crowers. Also, Fel-Pro makes a tall gasket that might work.

I did a quick search and came up dry.Try Bill Mitchell racing or the back shop at Competition Products.Also if you can get the right guy on the phone at Jegs or Summit.If all else fails get back to me and will find a set down here.
Double gasket don't work so well.But the rubber style and the yellow 3M stuff might work if it was ultra clean before stuck together until you can find spacers.

Thanks Montainmotor, I will give them a call at Jegs to see if they have the short sure locks. The ones that came with the Crane rockers are really tall!
