Horsepower/Torque to reach 13.0 1/4
Planning to rebuild and was wondering what the min. hp/tq level I would need to reach this goal. According to another site's computer dyno, my planned rebuild is at 385hp and 407tq and projected times are approx 13.4 . What do you think??? (75 coupe with TH400 and 3.08 gears w/2200 stall converter)

Re: Horsepower/Torque to reach 13.0 1/4 (newonad)
Easy way to get into the 13s is to be pulled by a 12 second car. Just teasing with ya.
Something I would consider if you are rebuilding your engine is the cam profile which will dictate the stall converter and rear end gear ratio you will want to run to keep your car in its power band.
Think of your car as an entire system and not just an engine and you will consistantly get faster.

Do you know the weight of your vette? Check out this site.
http://www.web-cars.com/math/qtr_mile.html
Third section down on the page. Put in the weight and desired time and voila, you have the horsepower needed. Of course, this doesn't account for lots of stuff, but it gives you a rough guess.

I'd imagine you'd be close. My 355hp/405tq ZZ4 best pass was 13.3 although I know those last .3 tenths are tough to get!!!! This year I hope!!!

Never mike....you need a HOTCAM first!
I ran consistent 13.0's and a 12.98 with ~395HP and 415ft/lbs
I do have a m-21 and 3.55's dont know how much thatll make a difference.....
welcome to the forum BTW!

My guess is you'll end up in the high 13's. To see low 13.'s you need to go to at least a 3.55 or 3.73 gear. For your engine to be making 385 HP your going to be making it at around 5,500-6,000 RPM and your 3.08's will never allow you to reach that RPM level. I bet you'll be crossing the finish line at around 4,500-4,800 RPM in 3rd. :( Just my humble opinion...Deen

Re: Horsepower/Torque to reach 13.0 1/4 (newonad)
According to the calculations it would take
306 RWHP to reach 13.00
with 20% chassis loss that is about 382.5 HP at the engine.
Realistically you probably won't reach 13.0 with that power, but not too far off.

Re: Horsepower/Torque to reach 13.0 1/4 (Clink69)
Clink,
Where did you come up with your calculation for RWHP needed for a specific ET? I know the site I listed is based on engine HP but I'd love to find calculators based on RWHP as that is the easiest to measure if the engine is already in the vehicle. Also, do you base it on total weight of vehicle with driver or just vehicle alone? I would think you would want total weight when calculating HP needed to get a certain ET.

I used 3400 lbs as estimate.
HP = Wt/(ET/5.825)^3
