You Haven't Lived Until You Have....
...completely disassembled your shifter linkage. I pulled mine out with the transmission and decided to clean it up. My shifting was really rough right before I took it out. It appears as though it was greased maybe once, and that was from the factory (I'm gonna have to get on my dad's case about this :) )! The grease was no longer grease, it hardened to become a solid that's how old it was. I spent about 4 hours disassembling the shifter linkage. Some WD40 and paper towels helped clean the cruddy mess up. I used a pocket knife to remove the hardened grease. What mess. I used some Moly based grease and reassembled everything. Shifts like butter now :D .
I spent some time cleaning all of the road grime and oil off of my tranny too. The transmission cleaned up quite nice and looks like brand new. Two more projects finished. Yes, I took pictures too...I will add them to my web page when I get a chance.

No I've had the tranny pulled for about a week now, it's just been sitting in my basement. Today I finally got around to cleaning it and the linkage. I did not put the transmission back in the car, I'm leaving it out until I drop the big block in.

And you have NOT "lived" until you`ve shifted the Leonard Long "RACE" rail shifter, Connected to a Roltec transmission. You will throw yours in the GARBAGE CAN!! ......redvetracr

So they are that good? Those sound like top dollar race items. What do you run the Roltec transmission and Leonard rail shifter in (your race car?)?

I was told when I installed my hurst, do not lubricate it. This is why, with the grease, any dirt/grime/dust kicked up to the car, attaches itself to the grease. Then when shifting the dirt gets in the shifter mech. and accelerates wear.
Anybody else have any opinions on this?
