Does anyone know how much play should be in a th-400 yoke!
I thought that someone might know how much play is acceptable in the rear
tailhousing bushing that the yoke rides on, I am haviving a vibration problem
and d'ont know if play in this area is normal or not.

Very very little. A friends big block Nova had some play in his trans yoke and it turned out he needed a new tailshaft bearing. I can probably get this number from him - will check it out and try to post back.
