Is there such a thing as too much oil pressure?
Breaking in my newly rebuilt engine and the oil pressure guage is pegged at 70
when driving. At idle the guage reads around 65. I had a new Melling high volume oil pump installed during the rebuild. Is this too high or is it not possible for the oil pressure to be too high?

Mine was like that after the rebuild, after the first thousand miles or so it like that when it starts till it really warms up then it drops some.

Mine dropped a bit after the 1,200 miles I put on it after the first year and a half. Sounds normal to me.

Yes you can have too much oil pressure. Most new oil pumps give you two bypass springs. The high pressure one will give you more pressure but you have to be sure that the oil can return to the pan quick enough to assure that pan won't run dry. This CAN happen and there will be too much oil in the valve covers. Make sure the return holes in the heads are clear and don't run it low on oil..
