Default Carpet fasteners Please HELP

Anyone have a suggestion on how to easily install new carpet fasteners. I put in new carpet but I am having a hard time installing these fasteners. Any help would be appreciated.

Mike, which fasteners are you talking about? I don't remember using any on my carpet, just 3M trim adhesive.

Hi Mike,
Sorry I don't have an answer to the fastners, the only ones I remember are the rubber push in ones under the passenger dash?
Hey did you get to the meeting the the day? I missed the beginning and the introductions so don't know if you were there or not?

I haven't done this on my 72 but I have heard of guys warming them up with a hair dryer, NOT A HEAT gun then starting to install them by pushing in place and giving a little persuasion with a rubber mallet.

You might also post this question at http://www.ncrs.org. These guys know this and I am sure someone will have done this before.

My 69 has 9 push in fasteners, 3 on the top edge of each "front" piece of carpet and 3 on the bulkhead in the back. The new so called "repro" fasteners are a very soft rubber and are tough to use. The originals are harder. I lube the tip of each one with lithium grease, and insert a small Phillips head screwdriver in it to guide it into the hole, pushing gently through the fiberglass. Then, I'll crawl under the car, grab the end with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull it through. Sometimes helps to have a helper push GENTLY from above. If you push too hard, you'll tear the rubber. If you're into NCRS/Bloomington type judging, the originals have a part number on the head of each, while the repro's don't. You can find good used originals at just about any Corvette flea market...pick them up for 25 cents each. Hope this helps. Chuck

lubricate the rubber stems with wd-40 then use a flat screw driver to work the stem into the hole

Lube it and use an old screw driver with the end cut off. Get one that has the shank size close to the hole size of the rubber carpet fastner.
