TH400 to 5 or 6 speed??
i'm just giving this some consideration right now, but is upgrading to a 5 or 6 speed from an auto about the same transformation as going to a 4 speed? besides from the obvious crossmember customization and shortening the driveshaft.. what else is involved. and about how much is this going to cost for a complete swap?

Not much different with a Richmond 5 or 6 speed...........
I DIDN'T have to shorten the shaft, swapping a TH350 to the R.O.D. 6 speed. Here's a pic of the auto trans. c-member mod; not much.........

hmm... what did you do to modify the crossmember ? did you have to move it back at all? I'm just still in the "i wonder" stage of this rebuild so i dont know what i wanna do just yet

C-member is in the original location. T-mount is moved back and dropped 1".
There's a thread here on this subject with a plan view and dimensions of a Richmond trans.

one question.. would 2.5" exhaust clear the tranny without a massive bend needed?

The six speed swap (from 4 speed) cost me $3,500 without a Lakewood Bellhousing (I haven't bought one yet)....

Hi Corey,
Thanks for asking but I sold the 4 speed to AC (on the forum) in Minnesota last Feb.
If you already have an auto, why not upgrade to the Turbo 700 with the lower first gear (3.06) and .7 to one 4th gear (30%) overdrive?

i really like the 400.. thats the only auto tranny i would ever use. I have 3.08 gears in the car as it sits and the car gets great gas mileage.. i was just curious about swapping to a standard... either 4,5 or 6 speed. . . thats the only thing my car seems to be missing.
