Best electric fan and CFM question
I am looking into buying a electric fan system for my 82. I have found that we want the highest CFM (I think). I thought two 12 fans would flow more cfm then a single 16 fan. But this is not the case, so why do you guys run two small fans? Please educate me on this topic.-Thanks TJ

I would give Tom Dewitt a call at Dewitts. http://www.dewitts.com
I purchased a custom Spal dual 13 inch fan setup from him.
Each fan pulls 1650 CFM of air.
He has some nice stuff.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Part of the goal is to cover as much surface area of the radiator with air flow as possible. Two 12" fans will cover more area than one 16" fan.
With that said - there are many people on the forum running electric fans, some use the dual's some use singles. Some people thank that the SPALS are the best others use the flexlights.
I've almost decided that it's going to be personal preference. I don't think you could go wrong with the dual SPAL. However if the roughly $340 for the SPALS is to much, you can try using the single fan option. At some point in time you may or may not have to upgrade to a different solution.
Hope this helps.

Why don't you think about a true serpentine belt system? Then you could use 90-96 dual GM Corvette fans and the shroud. This is a popular upgrade at the Corvette Clinic. I'm always on the prowl at swap meets for these shrouds. I've seen them complete for anywhere from $35 to $150. The shop always replaces the motors with new GM motors prior to installation. No one has ever reported a cooling problem with this set up, SB or BB.

If you have A/C, 1 fan is normally turned on w/ the A/C, the other when temp. rises. W/O A/C 2 fans are better also for less drain on the sys., for ex. 1 on at say 200 & both at say 220.

Former Vendor
Largest dual fan for 82
Your radiator core (fin area) is 26.2" and the spal dual 11" is 23.5". This is the biggest dual package that will fit. We do offer a custom dual 13" but it covers a full 27.5" area, which you don't have. The dual kit as mentioned above is $344 complete with harnesses, relays, fuses, and thermostat. For $20 additional I have a new set of aluminum brackets that allow you to bolt the fan directly to the stock rad. www.dewitts.com
