Default Interior Lights Staying On?

I have a 78 SA - the interior lights are staying on after I turn off the ignition. This is causing the battery to run down. They do go off when I turn the ignition on and start the car. This has me puzzled and I need your help. Thanks for responding! :D

Thanks for the info - where is the delay timer located, what does it look like and how do I check it out? I am more mechanical than electrical. Thanks! :D

On my 1982 it is behind the glove box area. It is an orange plastic "box" that has wires going to it. When mine went bad, i just replaced it, for I think $35. You can buy it in the forum's restoration store. here's the link http://store.yahoo.com/zipproducts/zip-es-341.html

I agree with 82Dukman. On a 77, the delay timer is under the top dash pad (gotta remove it) right above the speedo and tach. It looks like a turn signal flasher, but a little larger. Mine acted up in the same manner as yours, but the problem went away (outside temprature related??) I left mine alone after difficulties locating one. Good Luck finding one...

If you want a cheap fix, jump the 2 white wires leading to the delay box and your interior lights will function in a conventional manner (on when the doors open/ off when you close ).

If your 78 is an early production model the delay timer will be attached to a wire loom by the fuse box under the drivers side dash. You should be able to get to it without disassembling anything. :chevy
