Default SR Torquers 67cc or 76cc

Ordered XE250H-10 cam last weekend. Following the buildup from CHP Sept. 2001 issue. 410 ft-lbs. torque at 3500 RPM. 330 horsepower. They do not mention if heads are 67cc or 76cc. I assume 67cc since compression ratio is 9.25:1. My engine has a little over 100,000 miles. Do you think this compression would be to much? Could I use the .051 thick gasket with the 67cc Torquer to ease up on compression or should I go with the 76cc with a thin gasket? Did not wish to stress the motor too much. If you think no problem with the stock gasket and 67cc heads let me know. I may just be worrying to much. Thanks in advance.

I would go ahead and get the 67cc and standard gaskets. It will probably put you @ about a 10.0:1 compression. Which is okay for the street. 9.5-10.0 is real good for street use. If anything it will give you more power. Compression adds power in all RPM ranges.

get 67cc. my 72 with flat tops was 9.2 with .040, and is 9.7 with .015(professional use only)

Since he has the base engine, and the base pistons, isn't the CR about 8.5:1?
So how is he going to "get" a cr of 10:1 by only going from 76cc to 67cc with standard gaskets? I don't see how 10:1 even with the thinnest steel shim gaskets available.....

I agree. You have to "work" with a 350 to get 10:1, even with 64cc heads. With 67cc, and assuming a normal deck height, you're going to be in the 9 to 9.5-ish range.

If sooner or later you're gonna rebuild that 100k motor, consider buying the cc heads that would work with the type of piston you would use in your rebuild. Most go with flat tops on rebuilds. 9.5 to 1 is a popular comp ratio with iron heads. You do the math :D

I would go with the 67's. My compression now with stock 76's is 8.4. With even 64cc heads i could only get 9.5. 10 is impossible without deck work or smaller cc head. Im going with some 64's later when funds avail. Good luck and enjoy!!!! :D

Could I consider using the 72cc Sportsman II's? Probably runner's too large for my small cam and 350 block. I sure like the more modern fast burn chamber. If too doubtful I'll just go with the 67cc Torquers. Would like opinions just to make sure my decision is correct. Thanks for all the help.

If I'm right with the company, they also make 58cc heads.. Iroc 305 style heads with 1.94 valves but will jump you up to nearly 10.25:1 compression

THe S/R in the name stands for Stock replacement.
I understand you don't want to stress your bottom end too much, but I just ported my SR Torquers because the werent putting out enough HP, although I haven't done a before/after Dyno.
I would sugest going to the Sportsman II head, and also there are great deals right now, almost everywhere on Dart heads that will flow much better then the World SRs.
I wouldn't want you to be dissapointed with the SR Torquer heads as I was.

sportsman would be a mis-match with the xe250 cam. SRT's are good for 338-355hp stock.

Torquers were designed to be better than ported double hump performance heads. Go w/ 67, about 9.5 w/ forged TRW flat & thick gaskets. Cam should be bumped to XE-256. Really time for an overhaul.
