New to board, just purchased an 82 vette
I found the car i have been looking for for quite some time, now the long task of getting it back into show quality..mechanically the car is in decent condition it needs some work on the rear hubs and also some exhaust work...the only major problem with the car is the paint and the interior..the interior is destroyed...it needs to be completely removed and either recovered or replaced. the car also needs to be completely stripped to the metal and repainted.
I bought this car as a project, i am not keeping anything original...including powerplant and tranny ( it will be awhile before i can afford it) but for right now i am focusing on getting the car back into some ball park of show quality.. I am not a super mechanic so i am sure you will be hearing alot from me for the next few years.

The only metal you are going to find is the Frame and engine
Good luck with the car. Don't forget to look in the parts section too
What color is it Inside/out?
Some of us may have parts to help you

Welcome to the forum.
Please don't strip it down to the metal, as that would require removing the body, that is made of fiberglas. Hopefully, you don't mean what you said and that your frame (which IS made of metal) is OK.

As 82duckman already pointed out ...Corvettes bodies are made mostly of Fiberglass. You probably already new that, but to us Corvette nuts your statement was kinda funny:D..........We are a crazy group around here and I am sure you will fit in just fine. The wealth of knowledge on this forum is staggering, so if you need help, just post your questions and you are bound to get the answer. Good Luck on your project

Re: New to board, just purchased an 82 vette (SIVAR)
well, now that we got the fiberglass issue covered...
I figured that saying " to the metal" was the universal way of saying completely stripping the car....guess not.
the guys over at COFBA said this was the place to come for knowledge on my generation corvette, I hope they are correct, because as i said earlier i am by no means a master mechanic, and before all of this is said and down..I am sure i will be able to take my car apart and put it back together blindfolded.
Thanks

Welcome Aboard. I just got to the forum not to long ago myself and have been helped in many different ways from free info to free parts. This is a place that will rival any other place in the universe. A wealth of info here and don't be afraid to post anything, stupid though it may seem. You'll never learn by not asking. Don't get offended cause it's all in fun. Great place use it don't abuse it. Well abuse it but wisely.

Welcome. You are correct, this forum has an excellent reputation and speaks for itself. Lighten up a bit. A lot of guys here think they're standup comedians. And that's not necessarrily a bad thing.
A lot of guys here are not mechanics either(although some are), we just can't afford additional $$ for car repairs or the thought of some idiot trying to fix a 20-30 year old Vette. :yesnod: If you're like most of us, you will become very intimate with your Vette.
