Default '93 ENGINE & TRANNY IN A '74

Just got a tip on a 1993 LT1 and 6 speed from a wreck with 2,500 miles on it. (supposedly)
I'll see it this weekend.
He has everything including electronics.
Would that be a good swap.
What are likely problems.
He's asking $1500.00
I'd appreciate some input.

Please do not tear apart a very nice 74 vert and install a LT-1 in it. Sell it and buy a high number year, then ripe it apart. 74 vert are getting hard to find.

Sorry just my .02 .

Sweet price if mileage is correct...these combos (w/ more miles) usually go for about $2,500+ on eBayMotors (some pace in Bristol, PA, has always got some...don't know how they get 'em and the junks yards don't??)

Anyway, ckeck out Vette Dan's site about these conversions...

Budman,
I totally agree with you.
It became available so I had to consider it.
After some thought last night, I'm going to stick to my original plan which is to install a ZZ4.

Ken,
There may be someone on the forum that would appriecate the deal. To bad you don't have a late 70's or early 80 to put that engine in. One of the TPI guys is running 12's with the LT-1. Anyway, the ZZ-4 is an outstanding combo and will boil the tires on that 74 for days.

The place in Bristol is called Contemporary Corvette. They are the largest Corvette salvage/parts yard in my area. He gets a lot of wrecks at auctions and from insurance companies.

LT1 or ZZ4, either way your putting another engine in the car. Why is a ZZ4 okay and the LT1 not?

Just curious because my 74 vert is going to be completely rebuilt with lots of custom mods. If a 74 vert is so special, why don't they command more money?

Any Vert will comand more money, even 74. Check any book value listing. Installing a Late model LT-1 requires a lot modifications to the engine bay and harness. Yes it is reversable, but it is very expensive to do the swap and then decide to swap back. Ask the guy's that have done it.

If you are going to modify or customize your vette. Cool. I definely can relate to that. But, I don't think "I" would do it to a very nice vette. Just my opinion. I modified my 78, because it is not a low mileage, low number car. It's been repainted and will never bring $20,000. It was a perfect car to add a bunch of mods too.

I do hear you. :yesnod:

I just wanted a convertible C3 as the base for the custom Vette I've always wanted. And a 73 or 74 seemed to be the cheapest ones out there to start with and since I prefer the shaved/sleek 50's style customs and wanted to apply that to a Vette, a front chrome bumper car wouldn't do anyway and the 75 had a cat . . . so I was back at looking for a 73 or 74 again. Then to top it all off, I needed a complete car that I could take apart. A project car in boxes wouldn't work for me.

It is a convertible, but that's the only thing special about it. Nice shape and I paid $11,500. Restored to showroom quality, she might be worth $20,000 on the top end since she's only an L48 and it would easily take $10,000 to get her there.

Not to mention, she'll never be for sale by me, maybe by my wife or my 1 year old son . . . But not by me, EVER. :nono:
