Are these ZL-1 heads ?
I checked my Corvette black book and they do not list the ZL-1 heads. They are aluminum rec port casting # 3946074. A buddy of mine has these, bought them at a swap meet years ago. :chevy
Thanks

Re: Are these ZL-1 heads ? (69 N.O.X. RATT)
these heads were used on 69 L-88s but they were also sold over the counter at your chevy dealer as i have 2 sets of these in my shop.

Re: Are these ZL-1 heads ?
The 3946074 casting was used in production on 1969 ZL-1 Camaros and Corvettes, 1969 L-88s (second design) Corvettes, and 1971 LS-6 Corvettes. It is a relatively common casting as many were sold as service parts... Going rate is about $1000-$1200 for a set of bare, unmolested (no porting, no repair, no surfacing, etc.) heads.
Outside of knowing the ownership history of the heads in question, it would be next to impossible to determine if they were factory installed on an engine. The date would give an idication if they COULD have been installed in production, but it is by no means definitive (the date for early aluminum heads is located on one of the runners on the underside of the head - the format is competely numeric unlike the cast iron heads).
Regards,
