Default Going to the Monterey Historic Races in August

We are heading to Monterey in August for the Historic Races and the Concours d'Eligance at Pebble Beach. Would like to know if other forum members will be there. (we are leaving from the central Oregon area) Also, any information on the Monterey area would be appreciated as this is our first trip. We will be there the whole week and plan on catching both days of racing at Laguna Seca raceway.

Absolutely! I must say, I'm a lot closer than you. There will be caravans going down to that area from all over, and the Pacific Events forum has a couple of good links. If you don't already have rooms, get them right away, or you'll have to stay a significant distance from the track. One of the forum members (Mikegoat) is making a bulk ticket purchase that will reserve an entire parking area for the Corvette Forum participants if your interested. It will include a couple of pace laps, although with the number of cars, it will be more like an LA freeway :D If you have time, Cannery row in Monterey is pretty cool (restaurants, Monterey Bay Aquarium, etc..) and there are some nice beaches in the area. US Highway 1 is world famous as a driver's road, and I especially like the drive down to Hearst Castle (San Simeon). The weather can be cool and foggy in the AM, but usually gives way to glorious sunshine by 11 am or so. Great for convertibles! Have fun.

I'm staying in Marina by the beach. If you need secured parking, better check with the Hotels downtown, or stay in Salinas (20 miles east of Monterey, 12 miles from the track). Check this link for lots of info:

My Wife and i will be coming over from England for this one! We are actually doing the NCRS National as well, so planning on arriving on about 8th August I think. A few days sight seeing between the NCRS thing and Laguna Seca.

No Corvette with us alas, but we'll look out for any Forum members at the track!

See you in August!

It is looking like I may be going to the NCRS national with my wife (and no corvette :( ). Schedule will not let us stay past August 13. MJ

fauxr, you would have to check with mikegoat on the pace laps, but their a lot of fun. It generally involves a pace car of some sort, the a side-by-side parade of cars. The trick is (traffic allowing) to hang back as much as possible, thus allowing you have a little bit of room to "strech your legs"! :D

Unfortunately, I'm sure it will be wall-to-wall vettes around the track, but it is still a blast. I take the BOSS to the NorCal Shelby club Mini-nationals and it's a hoot!

Yeah I understood that the laps would be 'controlled' and more of a parade than anything else - But I would love to participate even at that level. What a blast that would be.

mikegoat will be posting as soon as possible about tickets and whatever he learns about pace type laps as soon as he knows more I'm sure.
