Corvettes are for...
In the middle of a Corvette body-off rebuild (not restoration), you have lots of time to think about the direction being taken.
In my case, I've always played to the overall car....the way I usually would like to see a Corvette in use.
I don't lean towards focusing on a portion of this great car's strengths, while ignoring others. For instance, if I focused solely on the 1/4 mile, then I'd be ignoring road-course driving. If I focused solely on car shows and judging, I'd be denying that Corvettes were built to drive. And, if I used it only for a daily driver, I'd be missing out on the excitement of club racing, time trials, etc.
Don't get me wrong - I love drag racing. But it's all over before the first corner arrives.....just at the point when our cars should really be coming into their own.
I love car shows with lots of cherry beauties to drool over. But the thought of most of them being hidden away with perfectly clean tire treads in trailers going down the Interstate after the show is depressing.
I know we don't have the time and money to do all things with our cars, but since I'm now at the point of starting up the other side on this rebuild, I'm going to focus on a radical road-course style car that will remain reasonably streetable.....and I am gonna drive it, maybe even to the odd client appointment.
To me, that will be 67HEAVEN.
No doubt, you have your own brand of heaven.

Re: Corvettes are for... (67HEAVEN)
I like the jack of all trades cars. Ones that can handle, accelerate, stop, and look cool all at the same time. Kinda like a pro-touring car. At least this is kinda the format I'm going for, It will be pretty good at everything but at the compromise of not being the greatest in any one area. I've got a long long way to go still :yesnod:

Do you want to:
Drag race? Get a rear engined dragster
Road race? Lotus makes a nice car
Show your car? Laid down customs with candy paint are the way to go
Cruise the back roads? Honda = cheap and fun
Do it all? Get a CORVETTE!

Hi 67, How's it going?
For me it's a case of take a great vehicle ('81 Vette :) ) & improve it. In every way that I can think of, funds permitting (which they usually don't). The greatest part of it is when you can prove people wrong eg. "this blah blah blah can beat your Vette on the twisty bits" gives me a huge urge to improve the handling. The satisfaction on losing the blah blah blah on the bends is :D. My current challenge is to take a computer controlled C3 & get some decent performance out of the motor, still with the computer stuffed in it (maybe I'm mad, but it will keep me out the pubs!). Whether I do it or not, I'll let you know, but the fun is 80% in trying & the other 50% (!) in doing it.
I just want a good all round driver. One thing I'm not bothered about is shows - I don't care if a judge likes it or not. If I like it then I'm happy with it. If I replaced the seats with wickerwork chairs, or a 2 seater sofa, then I wouldn't care how many points it would lose in a show, as long as I was happy with it! Now, that's got me thinking...... wickerwork is a lot cheaper than recovering the seats.... maybe an electrically adjustable drivers wickerwork chair, bet that's never been done before
Paul (as sane as the next man until I started getting emails from Jimmy Page ;) )

Re: Corvettes are for... (flood)
I think for most of us our picture of heaven is ever changing..........we never quite get to the promise land before our tastes change and we start in a new direction. I always wanted to restore my car back to what it looked like in the show room......then after a day in Tampa......and getting waxed by a group of C5's........ ITS ALL ABOUT THE POWER, BABY!!!!!!!!!! Turbos, and Blowers and Nitrous....OH MY!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Of course I haven't reached my destination yet, but the journey is sure going to be fun :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

Hey UK,
Good to hear from you. Last I saw of your car you had the backside torn asunder!
What's up with it now?
After watching Eastenders for years, I thought you guys all lived in Pubs! :D

67 Heaven,
We really do need to get together! Same dilemma for me and settled it in much the same way. Yeah, I want the car to look gorgeous, but not "bolt head" detail. I want it to be able to run with whatever car I come across on pavement!

Sounds like "69 & Z Heaven" What I really want is to take a couple turns at Mossport in them like you once suggested!
