one of the club members when i belonged to the northwest corvette association (vancouver, wa) had a '75 he shoehorned a 502 in. unfortunately, i don't know a number or if he's on the forum, his name is phil, but maybe someone knows him or maybe you can see if they have a website now. as i recall, the install was fairly straight forward requiring mainly big block springs and a hi rise hood, and i don't think he had a/c, but then again, you don't need a/c in washington 49 weeks a year!

Re: Anyone put a 502 in a C3? Or heard of it? (clutchdust)
Well actually I was planning on a blower ontop of the 502... So I'm looking for someone who has done this before, cuz I'm gunna need to replace the trans and rearend and a buttload of other stuff. So finding out what I'm up against from someone who has done it before would be alot better than trying to go at it alone.
Thanks

Easy, 502 is same size externally as 454 which was stock till '74 as you probably know. Forum member MassVette has a '79 (I believe) with a 502, dual quads, and Richmond 6 spd. All you need to put one in a post '74 C3 is some big block accessory brackets and maybe stiffer front springs.

As mentioned above, MassVette has a 502 in his 79. MELVIN put something similar (540 block?) in his 68. GDaina I believe has a 540 in his 68. Flareside has a bare block in his garage :) (not a GM 502). You will need to use an electric fuel pump as there is no place to install the mechanical fuel pump. Also, if you have a manual trans I think there is an issue with the clutch - like, no bracket on the block- relatively minor. BTW, I have never heard of anybody putting a blower on top! MJ

I'm running a Merlin II Block netting 509 cubic inches. With the Weiand Stealth manifold I'm running I had to use a L-88 hood. Still have yet to drive it though. Should be ready to start first thing this spring then on to the body shop. 2.5 years and counting on this project so far.

We'll, which specific 502 are you referring to? When people mention a 502, they're usually referring to a GM crate ZZ502, but that's not really what you need with a blower since it's a 9.5:1 compression motor. GM also sells a few lower performance 502s with lower compression (8.75:1), but I'm not sure how strong they are. You'll probably want to build something yourself. If you build it yourself, you probably won't go with a 502 since you can build a 509, 522, 532, or 540, 555, 565, etc. for the same money.
I'm building a rectangular port 540 with EFI, and I'm stuffing it all under the stock body, including the stock big block hood.
We really need more details about your plan to be helpful...

All of the above. While your atititis is the big thing. It fits in easy enough. You need to fab a clutch z-bar pivot ball bracket and get an electric fuel pump and BB brackets for alt. etc.. Then comes the whilyouratit. Bigger rad and fans, better clutch, then bell housing and on it goes But it is basicly just a big block swap when all said and done.

Hey 2nspire. Didn't you post something a while back about emissions testing being enacted in your area? How'd that turn out?

Re: Anyone put a 502 in a C3? Or heard of it? (Golden80)
There is some missing info not mentioned:
I put the GM 502/502 in my 68. The frame mounts, front suspension linkage, clutch set up (if you have a manual) etc, are the same as your 75
1. If you are running a 4 speed, there is no boss for the clutch linkage pivot ball on the block. Someone in the past said GM performance makes a bracket for the linkage ball, but I couldnt find it. I made my own, no big deal
2. The 6 qt oil pan that comes with the GM 502's WILL NOT fit. Not enough clearence in the steering linkage. Someone on the forum tried sanding some relief in the oil pan, and sanded through the pan. GM performance makes a 4 qt pan, about $150 bucks, comes with one piece gasket, and a 4qt dipstick.
3. The 502/502 (not the ZZ 502) comes with stamped rockers, and OVAL ports. The 502/502 will accept the MARK IV valve covers (ie, the 427, 454 vettes).
The ZZ 502 has roller rockers, that will not take the MARK IV valve covers, as roller rockers take a taller valve cover. Also, I beleive the intake ports are "semi oval", as mentioned by a member in the past , whatever that may mean.
For folks that have a oil line fed oil press gauage, the NON ZZ 505/502 has a fitting for it. Also, a flex plate comes with the 505/502 for you auto trans folks. You can use a tach drive, or HEI dist in the 502/502
On my 505/502, I used my of my 427" water pump, exh manifolds, starter, distibutor, intake, carbs, valve covers
You will need a water pump. Not included. The MARK 1V's will fit. Also, MARK IV exh manifolds and intake manifolds will fit, if you are so inclined
