Default " Ins and Outs of headers........."

Would like to get some feed-back on what to use for headers for a 502, moderately heated. The company that wants to build them says 2" primarys, and 3" collectors. This sounds like it's tooooooo small !! I would think more like at least 2 1/8" primarys, and 4" collectors. This is, by the way, for a sidepipe system. Thanks, JCL   :chevy : Sidepipes are the way".

Unless you are drag racing it is much better to go a little small than a little big.

If you go too small you will loose a little off the Hp peak, if the primaries are too big you will loose a little everywhere but the hp peak.
If your 502 is putting out 500 -600hp I actually think 2" is even on the big side ( I have data around here somewhere if you're interested ) 2 1/8 is WAY too big!

Also most people make collectors too big and too short. 3" collectors rock!

If you want real header information go to www.headersbyed.com :smash:

You might want to talk to these folks. I was disappointed with the amount of fit problems, but they are supposed to be the best headers for hardcore performance. The 502 takes the model #216 with 2-1/8" primaries and 3" collector. The other downside, they don't offer them coated.

hooker makes a set with 2-1/8" but i'm not sure how well they fit; they are just too big. these are for undercar system. the only other size is 1-7/8", which are pretty popular

If 2 1/8" primarys are to big for a big block, and 1 7/8" are to big for a small block, then why do Hookers (sidepipe set up) come that way? They have had that for umteen years. Whats up with this? JCL   :chevy "Sidepipes are thwe way".
