TH400??? feeling kinda stupid...
Ok, i'm feeling rather stupid for asking this, BUT....
does my '74L82 auto have the TH400, or 350.
I'm almost positive it is the 400, i just got my
B&M shift kit for it today, and i'm hoping i got the right one :)
OH!, and i ordered my 17x8 Torq Thrust II's today with some
245/45/17 Falken Tire GRB-Fk451 tires :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Gonna be swwwweeett...
Thanks

Re: TH400??? feeling kinda stupid... (VETDRMS)
I checked my Corvette "Black Book" and the RPO# for your transmission is M40 which is a Turbo Hydra-Matic Transmission (does not specify 350 or 400). It goes on to say that the M40 was used with the LS4 & L82. If the same transmission that you have was used on a big block you can bet your bottom dollar that it is a TH400. That and the fact that the transmission that came with the LS4 that I purchased was a TH400. So to answer your question YES you have a TH400....one of the strongest and most reliable automatic transmissions ever made.

Pretty sure you should have a 400(if it's original). 400 has a pan kind of shaped like Texas, 350 is square with 1 corner cut off.

Re: TH400??? feeling kinda stupid... (VETDRMS)
All Corvetttes up to sometime in the late seventies had TH400's. I think the change to TH350 came in 77 but not positive. So you should have a TH400 if you have the original trans.. It is easy to Identify.. The oil pan is a strange looking curvey shape compared to a 350 that is square with one angled corner. TH400's have no kickdown cable as that function is done electrically. TH400's are much tougher. :yesnod:

You may want to do a search on "shift kit". There have been recent threads on which stage of "improvement" to use on TH350 installs. I believe the general concensus was the street/strip stage. I used the HD/Towing on my TH350 and, while it was a big improvement, if I get in there again, I'll go street/strip.
Also, I'm not sure if you TH400 can uses an adjustable modulator like my 350, but if it does, I would recommend getting one. On the 350 it's a really easy install (especially when you're under there doing the shift kit). It lets you adjust the shift points up and down the RPM range. For less than $15, it's another very nice mod to the trans.
Good Luck!
