Replacing Rear Door Glass Weatherstrip
I just ordered the rear door glass weatherstripping for my '72 coupe. The weatherstrip that is on there now looks like the original pieces. After taking off the interior panels I can see that there are rivets holding these pieces on.
Is it necessary to use rivets to install the new W/S? Can you use screws? What is recommended?

Re: Replacing Rear Door Glass Weatherstrip (QikStik)
I didn't find any rivots when I replaced mine. I just used the weatherstipping spray remover, then put new weatherstripping adhesive on and lined it up. Come to think of it I don't recall removing any inside panels either, just the window???? Are you talking about taking the window apart from the aluminum frame??

I used screws in place of rivets and it works fine. Hey warp, much better quality pic you have now.

I did it the tough way, I found the correct rivets and did it that way
The 2 shorter (top 2) I had, the bottom one which is longer I found at the local NAPA...

Re: Replacing Rear Door Glass Weatherstrip (Warp70)
Warp70: I am doing the vertical strip at the rear of the door glass (lock pillar). I think you are talking about the rear window weatherstripping. I already had the interior trim piece (verticle piece behind the seats) out when I was repairing my shoulder belt retractors recently. That is when I saw the rivets.
BADCAIMAN: Describe for me the plastic trim clips you used?
Thanks for everyone's replies!!

The best way I can describe them is like a plastic rivet...But these can be removed and reused over and over.....A plastic washer with several prongs you insert it into the hole and put in the plastic pin which expands the prongs and locks everything in place...To change you remove the pin and the prongs release...Very common on the newer cars....Good luck

I redid my 82 CE and didn't use any rivets. I just put a healthy bead of weathestripping cement there and after 1 1/2 years there have been no problems.

Thanks everyone! I think I am going to go the rivet route, since I already have the tools.
