Default Will 275 or 295 tires fit my rear wheels?

Anyone running those sizes without a problem on a 15" rim? Will either of them interfere with any part of the rear suspension? Thanks in advance!

I could not even fit 235/60's on my 69.. Mufflers and E brake bracket interference.

I believe 245s maybe 255s are the biggest you can fit without moving the Ebrake bracket. If you do that then i believe you can get 275s to fit.

I run 245s all the way around on my 69 with no problems.

My car had 255's on the rear with no mods to the suspension and stock trailing arms. I now have heavy-duty after market t-arms(stock offset) and would like to step up to maybe 275's. Is moving the e-brake bracket the only thing I have to do ?

Go to this page --> http://www.bokonon.net/corvettefaq/misc.asp <-- and look for the link to "More Bite for Old Sharks (Wider Tires)".

You will have interferance with the parking brake bracket almost certainly. A 295 tire mounted on a corvette rallye (15x8) is at the very bottom of the acceptable rim size for that tire - as such you will have very bulbous sidewalls which will reduce the contact patch and the effectiveness of the tire so far as handling goes.

based on a BFG radial TA of 295/50-15 the acceptable rim range is listed as 8-11" - dimensions on their site shows that the tire was measured on a 9.5" rim for an installed section width of 12.2" however mounting this same tire on an 8" rim the same tire would have a section width of 11.6". this tire has a diameter of 26.7" which is very close to the 27" diameter of your original tires.

A 275/60-15 filts on a 7-11" rim - measured on an 8" rim with an 11" section. it however has an outside diameter of 28" which will throw off your speedo just a little bit. A 275/50-15 can be mounted on 7.5-11" rims - measured on an 8.5" rim with an 11.2" section...on an 8" rim this tire would have a section of 11" the same as the 60 series tire. This tire has a diameter of 25.9" which is about an inch short so it too will change your speedo reading a little.

All of the above info was taken from the Tirerack at http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp

Get ahold of MotorHead I believe he has the 295's on the rear and is quite happy with them. They do extend a ways out of the wheel wells though.

Pat:
I LOVE the new photo! I'm going to find out whether or not I'll be able to fit 275/60/15s come spring time. If I have to I'm going to move the e-brake bracket but I have to get some more bite for the upcoming big block.

A little too much traction? So your car is hooking up pretty good with the 275/60s? Are those BF Goodrich Radial TAs or are they the BF Goodrich Drag Radials? I was thinking about going with the BF Goodrich Drag Radials (275/60s).

What tires are you running up front. I'm probably going to keep my 215/70/15s up front and run 275/60/15s on the back. I like the look of the fatter tires out back.

I had 275/60 15s with about a 1/4" between the tire and the parking brake bracket. I have since gone to offset trailing arms so it's not a problem. Go to pics below to see them on the car.

Red73, you have such a beautiful car! I love it! I looked through your pics, but I couldn't find any that shows the clearance between tire and bracket. Did you have any problem at all with the stock t-arm? Why did you change it? I will be emailing you in the future with some engine specific questions in the future, as you have alot of what I want to do with mine......hope you don't mind my interrogation!!!!

7t2vette, I added the only picture I had to my link below (last picture at the bottom) of the gap between my 275's and my trailing arm. It's not very clear. You'll notice that this picture was taking prior to me rebuilding my rearend. If you look close you will see the parking brake bracket next to the wheel. I did have to tie back the parking brake cable as it did hit/rub on the tire. I went with offset trailing arms thinking someday I may go with a wider wheel and tire combination. Please feel free to email me anytime. Rod
