buyer has questions about 72-29 vettes
Hey everyone, you may or may not know that I have a humble little first time Vette owner's site called "A layman's Guide to Corvette Ownership" Sometimes people email me with questions and of course I come HERE for expert answers :D
here's the question:
Now I know a LOT about C4s but almost nothing about C3s and we'll have to assume this person does not either. Thanks in advance!
here's the question:
I am thinking about buying a vett from these years. Could you tell me if you know of any major mechanical problems?

Rusty frames, rusty windshield frames (A piller). Rusty radiator supports. Rear wheel bearings are expensive to fix, Brake calipers leak. (S/S lined caliper are a bonus. Some of the mid to late seventies cars have metal floor pans (rust). :chevy

Let us not forget the fiber optics, headlight, wiper and cowl vacuum systems and of course half shaft and posi potential complications. Wow, why do we drive these things....Oh yeah, they kick butt! :D

#1 RUST!!! As mentioned before... The best thing to recomend to your email queryer (is that a word?) is to refer him/her to a Corvette club or a 'Vette owner... Many things can cost alot of $$$ to the unprepared and unsuspecting buyer... I know I couldn't see past my er**tion when I bought mine, and now I'm paying for it!!! Good thing this a hobby!!!!! :jester
Take care and good luck to the person that sent you the Q.

And if you find a good one......big fat fenders and a rumbling motor....and a great driving experience :D . Easy to work on, easy to get attached to.

C-3's are the SAME frame and suspension as C-2's; basically a re-body. Problems that pertain to one pertain to the other. The cars are usually easy to fix yourself, are mostly mechanical (simple), and there are TONS of stock and HP parts available. The C-3 is the only series in which the Big Block "Mark" engine is a bolt-in for the ENTIRE run. Oh,yeah. NO computers, either, until late 1980.....

As stated already, the foremost problems are Rust, brakes and suspensions. :yesnod:
