Default Carburetor Recomendations Please?

Looking for a new carb for my newly rebuilt 427/390. The engine is almost stock and I want to maintain a stock appearance so this means I will be going with a Quadrajet. Anyone have experience with the rebuilt units from Zip?
I am also looking at the Edelbrock 1901 which is a new carb. Any input would
be greatly appreciated.

I really like my Holley 750...I have run both the original Quadrajet(still have bagged and sealed) and an edelbrock 600 and I like the holley the best so far...It just seems to be a bit more responsive..However I hear GREAT things about Barry Grant's Demon's as well

BG Speed Demon...

I know it's not a Q-jet...but the performance is worth it, since the original is gone. You'll probably want a 750, elec choke, vac secondaries.

Pat,
The carbs from Zip have stock calibrations. The Edelbrock would be good but for less money you could send your qjet that I assume you have to JET,tell them about the cam, exhaust ect and get it back recalibrated and ready to go.If you don't have a carb I have a core I will give you till you find a replacement.
Companies other than Jet like the Carb Shop does this as well

I second Mountainmotors advise. Jet built my Holley 850 dp, they did a very good job. They have you fill out an order form that lists all your motor and tranny specs, then build the carb around that.

If sticking with the Q-Jet, I would recommend getting in touch with Lars. He will rebuild your carb for a lot less than JET and is definitely godd on the followup.

I have an Edelbrock 1901 on my 68 L36. It's a nice carb (shiny new!), runs great right out of the box, looks pretty much like the old QJet (because it is a new QJet). I havent measured, but it actually appears to me to be very slightly smaller than the old Qjet I replaced. I dont think the 1901 can be considered a high performance carb, but it works well. If you have an old Qjet you might be better off having it rebuilt by Lars. I bought my new carb when it was on sale for close to $300. MJ

Edelbrock 1901 is ok but not the only one that Edelbrock offers.Keep looking.

I won't use the Carb Shop again.

Lars is your best bet, but then again, I'm biased somewhat.

Beware. On 68-72's big block with stock (not L-88) big block hoods, very few combinations if any other than stock will fit under the hood. That is why the L-88 hoods are so popular.
