Keep 82 Collector's Edition or sell for C5??
Hi, lately my 82 CE has been giving me alot of trouble. I was considering on selling my CE and getting myself a cheap C5. What do you guys think? Would it be a mistake? Would I be better off fixing and keeping my CE or getting myself a C5? In the long run what would be a better car to keep? My CE is running horribly, it has a miss right at 1100 RPM, it is horrible out of the hole, it is slow, and it dies from time to time. The other night I got beat by a stock P.O.S. Toyota Corolla. I mean I know the 82's weren't the fastest but come on, it should at least kill a stock 120 hp car. My mom bought the CE brand new back in 82 and passed it down to me. The car was in the garage for over 10 years, but I pulled it out about a year ago and started restoring it. The car has been running for about 3 months now. The car currently has 69,000 miles. I like the car aside from the reliability/performance issue. I would like to hear your opinions. Thanks alot!

Beat by a Corolla? ...interesting...
Anyways, if you can afford a C5, why not take a smaller portion of the money you'd spend to buy the C5 and use it to fix up your C3 instead. If you aren't happy with your C3 at that point, then just wait a little while and you'll be able to get a C5 anyhow. Get the car tuned up, maybe invest in some performance parts for it. Port match the intake, get some perf parts(heads, cam), and you'll probably be a lot happier with it.
There are a lot of guys here who know about modding the CFI setup. Ask around, and you'll learn to love your car.

I wish I could buy your CE from you if it was for sale, I would love to have 2 of them in my stable :D do you have any pics?...
If you want your crossfire to run real good there is a nother forum just for you, but I can't find the link to it right now...
If someone else has it then they will list it on here for you,
You can mod your CFinjected setup to put out over 300 HP. without to much trouble. But I think that with a good tuneup, you will like it better...
How is the gas tank and lines, after 10 years they might be kind of cruddy...

I think minor engine problems are going to be some of the least expensive things to fix, it can even be fun. Keep the c3, and get the c5 when you can afford it.

Keep the 82 modify the Engine a bit and u will not want the c-5...Especially when you get her up to around 350hp........I am really sorry to hear a corolla out ran ya...I would have driven directly to the Garage and started the Mods that night

If your only choice is to keep the CE OR go to a C5, I'd get the C5. BUT - I'd only do that as a last resort. You should find a way to keep the CE because if you don't, I can promise you'll regret it someday.

I would get a C5 if I could afford one. I wouldn't sell my Vette , you wont get what the car is worth.

Although it may be down on power, the CE is a very collectible C3 IMO. You being the pseudo-original owner is icing on the cake. All 20+ year old cars have problems. C5s are great but you don't see an '82 CE every day.
Keep the CE.

Keep the CE. There is plenty of power to get out of the crossfire engine relatively cheaply. Checkout the crossfire injection forum for great info on the car. Plus you just gotta love the 82 body lines.

Argh, how could you bear to part with the beauty that is an '82 CE? :cry
In all seriousness, you could put some effort (probably less than you think) to get your CE running well.
Here's a start: If you haven't changed 'em in the last few years, start by replacing your spark plug wires. I GUARANTEE it will run better.
Anybody can have a C5 or C6 (assuming good credit). Nobody's making cars like ours any more!

Dude, I promise you that CE turns more heads that a C5 will. Do like they said and just replace the spark plugs/wires/distributor. VERY cheap fix and I guarantee you'll run better.
Anybody can get a C5, so stay as the original owner of that beauty and save up to get a C5.
You'll be glad you did

Don't sell it....try the easy stuff first. I bet a tuneup would make a world of difference. You have to be patient with an old car. It make take a little time to work out 10 years of cobwebs, but it'll be worth it in the long run.

Leo, don't part with the car. The 82 Collector's edition is a beautiful vette!!! If a C5 is on your agenda, put the C3 away, and save for the C5. When the C6 comes out, the C5 will come down in price!!! (except proabably the ZO6) :flag

KEEP IT !!!!!!!! Unless you are going to get the 2003 C5 Collectors Edition which will probally be priced way above sticker just like the 78 Pace Car's were. I remember seeing Pace Cars priced around $50,000 to $75,000 at the dealers when they came out 24 years ago so I bet the 2003 C5 CE will be in excess of $100,000. Like I said before KEEP IT and get a good crate motor installed. Keep the original motor in a plastic bag in the corner of your garage.
