Switch from manual to power steering?
Can anyone tell me what is involved in switching from manual to power steering? Brakes too. Thanks.

ruskus,
You will need the pump w/pulley, hoses, a different centerlink and a different pittman arm. I would be interested in your manual centerlink if you actually make the swap. You should contact Gary Gruhala(sp) in St. Louis he probably has the whole set-up at a great price. .....redvetracr

Re: Switch from manual to power steering? (ruskus)
Back when I was considering this swap (year or so ago) I found the parts (kit) for about $700. But when I started to go for more power I didn't want to give up any to power steering. I decided to build up some muscles instead... Its kinda nice to FEEL the road..

Debated this myself, then decided to go with the new Speed Direct rack and pinion instead. It will cost a few $$ more, but it should outperform the stock setup. You can get the kit for $995, then you have to add a pump.
I found that once I got all the necessary big block brackets and pulleys (crank, alternator, ps pump), the price was well over the quoted $800. Most of the kits don't include pulleys. They sometimes leave out things like the fact that a PS big block also requires new alternator brackets that support the new PS pump brackets. Not saying it's a bad move to go this route, just know that there are a few issues to work out.
