Is this carburetor original?
In process of reassembling my car after a total engine rebuild and trying to decide if I should rebuild this carb. I am trying to keep the car as original as
possible so if this is the original carb I will be sending it to Lar's for rebuilding.
The numbers on the carb are 6372S and C5 below that. It also has written on the side "Manufactured by Carter Carburetor" and "Quadrajet" written on the side. The fuel inlet has been oversized and stripped, but I'm sure that Lar's can fix it.

That number doesn't match any of the "Black Book" numbers for 1969...

Pat, the original carb for your car would have the number 7029215 stamped on it. It would also have a date stamp on it that would have to precede the build date of your car. I dont know if any Carter built Qjets were installed on 69s. The 7029215 carb was used on other Chevy bigblocks besides Corvette in 69, according to this website:

Unerdneath the writing Maunfactured by Carter Carburetor is looks like some
numbers were ground off. I'm guessing that it is not the original carb!

Any recomendations on a new or rebuilt replacement carb. I am considering
a rebuilt quadrajet from Zip and a new Edelbrock Quadrajet #1901.
The rebuilt carb from Zip is around 225$ and the new unit from Edelbrock
is around 400$.

Be sure to look carefully, they are quite faint and hard to see. Mine are just over from the throttle linkage written sideways on the main body of the carb. Is that where you got your numbers?
I am still confused by my numbers 7029223 0579. this appears to be a 57th day of 1969 carb for a manual but it doesn't fit any of the OEM charts?
anyone know?

Re: Is this carburetor original? (Clink69)
The numbers that I mentioned above are vertical rather than horizontal.
The wording mentioned is horizontal. I cannot seem to find much information
on Quadrajets manufactured by Carter, but I am beginning to doubt the originality of the carburetor.

6372S is a carter rebuilt Q jet. carter used their numbers on rebuilds and the GM numbers on the new carbs they built for GM. 7029223 is a 1969 350 chevy truck carb :chevy
