Default Rear End

I have a stock(so far) 77 that came with what i belive is a factory installed gymkana suspension. Anyway, I have no idea what my rear gear ratio is. Is there a way to tell without opening the diff.

Put the rear on jackstands and crawl under there. The GM number should be stamped on the very bottom of the diff. Post it here and someone who has the black book can check it for you and post the answer if it's stock and never been swapped out. Good luck!

No jack required, Diff is sitting in the corner of the garage. along witht the rest of the suspension. I'm rebuilding there entire chassis. So the numbers on the bottom right? I haven't really looked that close at it.

With the rear wheels up and the tranny in neutral, rotate the tires one revolution while counting how many times the drive shaft turns.

Warning - do not spin your wheels under engine power while the rear tires are airborne, yada yada.

I checked it last night. According to the code, it's a 3.36:1. I also turned it over to count revolutions. confirmed, it's a 3.36:1 thanks for the help.
