Default Need help concerning 6 link - please measure something for me

Hi all
Because my vette is torn apart, I canīt measure the distance X in the pic below.
I am in need of this measurement because I wanna know how "thick" the upper part of the new 6-link is allowed to be.
I donīt want to fabricate something only to find out, that it hits the body when I assemble body and chassis.
Thanks for your efforts, Markus
I hope geocities works, my homepage on corvetteforum doesn't :(

Distance X is meant to be the distance between the diff and the fiberglass body.

Your picture never came through. You can e-mail me directly and I am sure I can help you with dimensions. I have been aligning the rear end the last few nights and really like the 6 link. For me everything in the 6 link is done and aligned. I really found an inexpensive laser level ($40) comes in handy for setting it up.

Marcus your e-mail is still rejecting my reply this morning. I don't want to post all the pictures again here. You should be able to do a search for the 6 link.

Originally I built a bracket to go over the rearend like in the pictures but after
alot of work and machining I thought why? The bracket is bolted to the
rearend and some recommend a support braket welded to the rearend. If the
bracket is bolted to the rearend and the rearend is bolted to the
crossmember why not just skip the bracket and weld a stud unto the
crossmember? It is very simple to make a stud. The rear must come out
anyway for the clips to be removed from the yokes, the bracket must be
bolted to the rearend. Why bother. Remove the rearend and weld the studs on.
As for moving the upper link back a bit that is a good think. The closer the
upper link gets to the front the less leverage it has. After making and
installing the bracket I scrapped the whole thing and went with the stud.
It's location is important. I can send a drawing on this location. I sent
some pictures of my stud and upper strut.
Don't hesitate to ask more questions. I know I haven't answered the question but until tonight when I get back under there I don't know. I do work every night on my car, checking, modifying, building.
Hope the pictures help
Norval

I have already the pictures of your 6 link, Norval.
Because I donīt post in your topic it doesnīt mean that I donīt have an eye on you ;)

I made a complete technical drawing of my rear with all the levers and the diff and constructed a new type of 6 link with shorter strut rods.
Camber chance is zero all the way up and down and not only in the desired area of movement. Everything will be made of aluminum.
I have to do some calcualtions in order to know that everything is strong enough. Mechanical engineering rules, thanks for your help, Norval
