Body lift - finally done!!!
Hi fellows!
I just want to let you know that we finally lifted the body today!
I was very nervous today, starting at 6.30am in the morning and setting up the Video equipment and preparing the car finally for the lift!
At about 10:00am Sir Tripower showed up and we, the Sir, my Dad and me, did the job in about 20 minutes then!
We manufactured a special lift system, that adapted to my hoist perfectly - it is all self made and unique!
Basically said, one could have done it on his own.
What I´m also proud of: I just forgot to disconnet two wires - the HEI distributor wires.
We had to stop in the middle of the lift, cause some Oil cooler and tranny lines crossed each other (unfortunately not visible before.....), but this was a 5 minute fix and off the body went!!!
Here is the evidence:
What saved my day (and what I did hope to find!) really came to light:
THE FAMOUS TANK STICKER!
See, how he survived nearly 25 years of sleeping in the dark:
During the afternoon we dismantled the frame, removed rear axle (diff, trailing arms, spring, strutrods, crossmember) as one modular unit.
Pictures of that to be posted soon, Sir Tripower and me need to exchange the files - he did all the documentation via digital camera and video.
Thanks again from me for having your support, my friend!!! :yesnod:
As soon as I have all the files and tapes I will cut a video to burn it on CD as promised!
To all Forum members: Frame off isn´t as tricky as it may look - I found that the best thing you can have in this case is: SPACE! :yesnod:
"IF YOU DON`T TRY - YOU WON`T FIND OUT!!!" :flag

Looks like a slick set up. Question I have is the ??? ???coming down from your pipe crossing the hoist arms is that a soft sling or did you bend some metal pipe to clear body and catch the rail under body. Great finding the bulid sheet:)

Hi
Congratulations on the find of this tank sticker. :yesnod:
Unfortunately, my cars tank is stickerless, I did drop the tank enough to check all over. :cry
But, so what, I don't intend to sell this car anyway, and my 3 boys are already fighting about the take over. :D
Kepp the pics coming as I will go this route within the next 2 years as well, I hope.

What a great episode... thats what makes these cars so special... total access. Total rehabilitation when necessary. You would never know how easy they separate just looking at them on the street.

A LIFT??? Hell, I'm jealous of anyone who has concrete to work on. :D
I've put two engines in my 75 with a cherry picker and a floor jack in my sideways-inclined dirt driveway. (no garage) Since the picker doesn't roll on dirt, I had to force it to move an inch at a time with a pry-bar under the back edge. Additionally, I live in the Seattle area so most of the work was done in the rain.
Yeah, a lift would be great, but I think I'd better wish for a roof first. :)

Re: Body lift - finally done!!! (454Big)
Thanks for the nice replies, guys!
As I said, it was an easy and quick job, but the preparations due to the already painted body took me weeks and weeks!
The slings from the pipe are belt band style (2" wide), are exactly 80 cm long and go throug the hooks on the underside. They are locked there with a simple round metal piece (a cut big nail did the job here!)
I still did not get all the pictures from my buddys, so we all have to wait.
I myself did only about 10 pics the whole day, cause I did take more care of the lift and let the others do the documentation.
If you have any Q´s, don´t hesitate to contact me!
All those who are interested in a video/ picture CD, drop me an E-mail, please!
I don´t promise the CD to be sent out soon, but I´ll do my best! :yesnod:

Re: Body lift - finally done!!! (454Big)
I forgot:
The buildsheet is dirty and partially worn, but legible in most places!!!!
HOOOOOORAY!!!!
We cut this off with a razor knife without damaging it any further.
I will colorcopy the sheet tomorrow and plan to give it to a restorer at a library then. I heard they have some tricks to make it better legible.....
Otherwise the BKA in Germany (counterpart to the FBI) can do this - just have to establish some contacts..... :yesnod:
.....and I´m not talking about breaking a bank!!!! :D

The story continues!
Tomorrow we will strip the remaining bits and pieces from the frame (like Big Block engine, Transmission, fuel cell, radiator.....) :D

Re: Body lift - finally done!!! (Smokehouse69)
Well, Sir Tripower took about 120 pictures of basically every angle of the car, the lift, the setup, the TANKSTICKER :D and so on - The CD is way over 100 MB by now and we will proceed tomorrow.
I check for some nice pics, but therefore they are all high res they have to be downsized first ( 1 pic = 1 MB :D ) - definitely not suitable for the forum.....

What I am wondering: Don't you have to work at 10:00 am instead of having fun in the garage??? :nono:

Latest project update:
- Body removed and safely stored away (awaiting underbody cleaning and painting)
- all engine and suspension parts removed from the frame
- frame stripped and scraped clean ( man, I hate the underbody coating ! :cuss)
- welding spots for the frame located, reinforcement brackets in construction
- arranged an appointment with the plating shop executive for tomorrow
.....lets see what happens next......
