1974-75 Coupe questions
Other than the exhaust and rear bumper what are the differences between a 74 and 75 Coupe if any? What is the Name of the Orange color of a 75?
I have been looking for a 74 but have found a 75 and will have to act pretty quick or it will be gone at the price the owners want for it!
Thanks

Re: 1974-75 Coupe questions (Ganey)
Thanks for the reply. The problem"as you know" I have had with the two previous Vettes was in modding such original cars. This one is much the same but will throw caution to the wind now. :smash:
Not just because I have had two in the past to influence me but the 68-77 cars are one of the neatest cars ever designed.Timeless in style and the mods that can be made will keep them more than desirable in the future.
And now I ask, myself "what was that all about?" He He!
I love these cars   :smash: :chevy :flag ;) :D

Hershey thanks for the code.
If I get the car I doubt I will nickname it the Orange Flame though
Not any other differences or improvements? Not that it really matters, just curious.

Also, the '75 was the last year for flow-through ventilation. I've read somewhere also in the dark past that the '75 was the last year for large diameter halfshafts.

Re: 1974-75 Coupe questions (mountainmotor)
the front hood emblem is slightly different, and there is no gas tank emblem on a 74 while there is on 75.
nothing real major besides the bumper. Whats differrent on 75;s exhaust besided the cats??
IMO, i like the 74 cause of the few things that are different from surrounding years like the split bumper

I think ya'll forgot to mention that the L48 in the '75 is also the lamest, low HP motor of the C3's :smash: . I know too cuz mine's all original and unchanged.
So what is this color anyway?? I have seen it listed as Flame Orange and Orange Flame in many different places.

1974- Last year for the big block.
1975- Last year for the convertable.
I have a 75. Whith cam and exhaut mods, plus carb and distributer mods, can be a fun car to drive.

Ron
383+ & BB ARE OPTIONAL.
I pick the body & build an engine for it !
Someone w/ a witness said he rolled a 75 on a curve at 90+. The car was totaled & he walked away fine, though few at the scene could believe he was the one driving. He was wearing the shoulder belt & will not have a car w/o the shoulder belt now.

Re: 1974-75 Coupe questions (Cajun75)
Hey Cajun75. I saw your car on the reply post. Its a beauty. I have a 74 convert and would like to know more about yours (i.e type of wheels, what you did to the interior, and what did you do with those seats belts).
Thanks!

Re: 1974-75 Coupe questions (74VETTE)
74 was the last true dual exhaust, and last year for big blocks. 75 used a single catalytic conveter and a "Y' pipe to thetwo mufflers. Also unleaded fuel only. Also 75's suffured a horsepower drop. 75 also changed to HEI ignition. 75 was the lowest h.p. rating of all the C-3's. :jester

Mountainmotor:
A '72 to 74 2-12 system will replace the Y-pipe just fine depending on your states' environmental laws. The L-48 is dead lame, but you know the answer to that one.... HEI is a good step, most of them have TH400 auto's. Other than the difference's listed in the other posts, it has all the same problems with rad supports rusting out, poor glass fits, leaks, electrical issues etc. You can put 255/60 rubber all around, but you have to do a little filing on the inner fenders.
Looking for a sleeper are we? Finally got a pic in my signature. Looks dead stock doesn't it?

Re: 1974-75 Coupe questions (mountainmotor)
A couple of additions to the above information:
Regarding the orange color (no argument that the color is actually orange); original 1975 Chevy brochures called it "Flame Red"...not "Flame Orange" and the '75 Vette promo model from Chevy calls the color "Flame Red" too. Even PPG paint reference calls the color "Flame Red".
The front bumper on the '74 may look similar to the '75, however it is totally different. It is unique to the only the '73 and '74, neither has the black bumper guards for the energy absorbsion system like the '75 thru '79. The fiberglass between the headlights is also different.
