This forum is a bad influence (bought ROD 6 spd)
After much debate (and the wife's blessing), called Summit today and ordered a Richmond 6 speed. I was looking at least $1000 to rebuild the T-10 and I came in about $1000 under budget on the motor by lowering my expectations for now in the interest of daily driveability.
Thanks to MassVette, Flareside, and tsw71 for the info that helped me make the choice.
So the new project is:
.030 over L-48 block with balanced Eagle rotating assembly and KB pistons (10:1) for 355 cubes
Edelbrock RPm heads (assembled by builder, 3 angle job, etc)
XE262 cam (decided I wanted the torque)
1.6 roller tip rockers
Dual Force clutch
Brute Force U-joints
And the topper:
Richmond 6 speed with 3.04 first (equivalent to 3.87 with the T-10) and .76 OD (equals 2.55 rear) added to my stock 3.36 rear.
Spent about 1/2 this winter as what I paid for the car in 1993. This habit is addicting. What can I do next? FI, paint, tops????
Back to the garage. :smash: :smash:

Man...sounds like you're getting the setup right!
I desparately want one of those ROD 6 speeds. It'll be a few years likely before I get one, but someday. :D

Sounds like you have a good setup going. BTW, how is the 3.04 equivalent to the 3.87 if you aren't changing rear gears? Does the T-10 have more loss? What are the gear ratios for 2nd through 5th? I'm guessing 5th is 1:1.

Steve did you use a shop in RI or CT for the engine work?

Sounds like you have your work cut out for your winter project. Good luck and keep us posted on your project. I have been thinking about the OD for the mine also. Maybe sometime next year.

Avery,
Ratios are:
1st 3.04, 2nd 2.14, 3rd 1.57, 4th 1.24, 5th 1.00, 6th .76
Math for first is:
3.36 rear x 3.04 first = 10.2144 / 2.64 (T-10 first) = 3.869 equivalent
Gary,
As for the shop, I went with Golen's Engine Service up in Bedford MA (near Boston). Very knowledgable on the phone, willing to build what I wanted, nice big clean shop, No BBB reports, and a limited lifetime guarantee on workmanship for whatever that is worth (but they do have the confidence to offer it). http://www.golensengineservice.com if anyone is interested.

Steve!
I am glad you made the choice and bought it. I sent you that email, so let me or any of the other Richmond six owners know if we can help.

Wow, that's a heck of a drop from 1st to 2nd. I see how you got the 3.87 with the T10, you were talking about having a 3.87 rear gear. I thought you were talking about having a 3.87 first gear in the T10 with the 3.36 rear gear. Now it all makes sense. Thanks.
