once again I am requesting your opinions
Hello all. awhile back i posted a thread about a 79 vette i was looking at.. after listing the details, you guys persuaded me to forget this beautiful car-....thanks because today, 2 months later, he came back up to me and told me he had fixed the problems i noticed, and did not raise the price he stayed at 12k. i will list the details again and i would appreciated it if anybody could enter an opinion on if this is a fair price remeber i am not a collector just want a good cruiser so i already know this is a worthless as far as parts matching goes i dont care
1979 corvette New paint as of 98 Arctic white with Blue pearl add has a
corvette blue stripe down scoops on hood and down sides
Original owners manual and all reciepts (even for oil changes! mobil 1 all the way)
power steering, power windows, power locks tilt wheel
no rust on frame or in front of rear wheels
Rebuilt 350 cid block a custom milled torque cam and a holley 650 double
pumper carb putting out around 350 hp gross ; has 6000 miles on engine
interior needs "revamped" -new dash. steering wheel. seats, door panels ,
and carpet are needed- not in bad shape but i Despise the color
Trailing arms rebuilt at 55k miles; car chassis has 67k engine has 6k
New (GT1?) racing rated tires with maybe 40 miles on them
original rally wheels
Body is in mint shape along with paint, however paint needs 1 small bubble
removed , cost for that is around 200 for a professional job
no weird wobbles or engine sounds, mechanic says car is rock solid no leaks
anywhere in mechanical
new true dual exhaust with custom headers
took it out for a test drive, and it drives like a vette!!:D loves the highway and
didnt even have a problem getting up to 120mph i coulda gone faster but i got scared!!
any info as of pricing or otherwise would be appreciated on this car thanks a bunch and congrats on all youir rides

I still think 12K might be a little high. Have you looked at other 'vettes? Don't get bitten by the bug and buy the first one you see. A friend of mine recently bought an absolutely beautiful 81, in near perfect condition for 8K, there are deals out there.
But, if you are absolutely sure, that this is the car for you, go for it!

i think i may have to agree with smokehouse on this one. 12k for a '79 corvette, the highest production model year to date? it better be in really, really good shape. and there better not be anything about it you don't like.
i'm not saying don't buy it but just take a step back, if you weren't the one buying it, say it was a friend, what would you advise them? a corvette, any corvette is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay. the problem is when you get bitten by the bug, it's just like running a fever, sometimes you put better judgement aside.

I still think $12,000 is toooo high for that car, unless it was a L82 4-speed Pace Car needing very little.
As stated above, don't let the fever cloud your judgement. There are many fine Vettes out there for less.
Just my .02

I also think 12k is too high. Take it from one who got "BIT" by the fever. At the time of purchase, I contracted Vette fever and fell in love with the car. I just had to have it... only to overpay. I have since found similar/better condition 77's for much less. If only I was patient. Don't get me wrong.. I still love it, and the remorse has faded... but saving $2K on the purchase, could have been the money I've spent on the things it needed.... or the "go fast mods" that I now want!!

If it was a pace car yes...but being an everyday 79, I would advice against it.
If you went 120mph in a car you were test driving....remind me not to let you test drive my cars. :nono:
for 12K, I think you could get a nice pace car or other...if you are set on it.
just go look at another one to see what its like and if there is anything different that maybe you didnt think about.
I got my vette for $5500 in the middle of Summer. Ran, looked good, newer rims, new SS brakes, and suspension, needed minor things. I have redone engine to my liking, going to redo interior to my liking and then paint. But I saved with the price i got mine for...if you pay 12K, are you going to KEEP it untouched for 5-10 years??? you allready said your re-doing interior if you get it....I would get a car that needs an interior then, and save money !!
just my $0.02.....if you want to custom it to your liking...then get one cheaper and dump the money into it.

It does sound like a lot of money. Also too seems odd that mileage on chassis is only 67k miles but has a rebuilt engine? Be willing to bet speedo was perhaps not working or disconnected for some time.

With what needs to be done (including paint since you don't like it), half that price would be closer to reality. Remember, buy the best car you can and $12k will get you a hell of alot more in a vette out there, especially now with the economy like it is! I would expect to find an early 70's chrome bumper car, or an excellent CE or Pace for that money if you want a later model. Also, if you want a later model, look for an L82 with a 4 spd. As always, my .02!

I agree with Mark. For $12,000 you're entering the Early C-3 area. I've seen 68-73 BB's going for between 13-15K.---some here on the forum. In fact there was a '69BB in an area paper recently for $10,000---but it probably needed more work than your '79. A few days ago someone on the forum was trying to sell a '78 SA for $7,000! A few weeks before that someone had a '76 for $6,000 or so.
But then again, you only get what you pay for. Vette's can't be priced out of a Kelley blue book.

WAY too much money for the condition you describe. Have you priced interior parts? Can be expensive. Buy the most car you can find for the least amount of money.

I agree that interiors are high, if you had to replace it all it could be 2K or better!
