Why Does Chevy Orange Look Red?
I have noticed that the chevy orange on most of the engine pictures on the forum and magazines (see cover of current Paragon catalog) appears red instead of orange. Why is that? Even the engine on my 71 (painted by last owner) looks more red than orange. I am in the middle of detaining it and have tentatively chosen POR-15 chevy orange. Anybody else notice this?

There are two different types of Chevy orange that I have seen. I use the plasti-kote 1200 degree paint and they have two different shades. I chose "Chevy Orange" and it is clearly orange. However they also offer "Chevy Red/Orange" paint....which gives the appearance of red. Pictures can also be deceiving...I can't tell you how many people over the internet have commented on my "nice looking red Corvette." Just a heads up, my Corvette is Orange.

That may be the answer. I did not know they sold 2 shades. Also, I should have said detailing, but you picked up on that! Thanks.

I like that flame orange corvette, any way i have found that the high heat type looks more orange than the other. :cool: :cheers: :seeya .......

I thought that LuckGirl's '69 'Monaco Red' was orange the first time I commented on it.

If the pictures were scanned in (not digital) and were shot with fuji film, this could be the reason orange appears red. Fuji film turns all orange shades to red.

I noticed chevy orange is pretty red too. When I redid the valve covers, I thought I bought the wrong paint cause it looked almost too red. And when I painted a box for psychology class with the engine enamel, the class commented that only a very commanding person would paint it red. It was :chevy orange :lol: :yesnod: :crazy:
